It's only with 3.5 exhaust that you would have an issue running under 20 PS I. Someone should try out the jgs 50 mm wg, which supposedly fits a 44 mm flange. Would need to mod SAP tray and ac lines for the taller wg but it should flow much more than the ts45, which is probably the worst wg in its size.

Not going to see 20+ psi by 3000 from a 6466 and a 3" exhaust. 3500 is a more reasonable expectation..

Not sure you will see 20+ psi from any high flowing turbo at 3000 rpm on a 3.2L. EFR8374 would be the closest, with an E85 or race gas tune and 3.5 inch exhaust.

How about 1mm vans travel... yup I just triple check, seems I didn't verify Vanos travel after re timing the cams to the new settings... this would definitely hurt spool.

You loosened the 4 torx bolts up with cams locked and you had no travel ?

No travel whatsoever when testing with the air compressor, loosened the 4 bolts and nada, removed them and you can see the bolts are maxed out, im re doing cam timing once again and this time will be checking vanos travel with the air compressor... that was my bad.

Did you roll the vanos in with the wrench, turning the exhaust sprocket CW instead of CCW ?

Yes and wouldn't move CW as it was maxed out, would only move CCW, I reset it and now rolls forward
I'm re doing cam timing once again and then will check vanos travel

    You're not the only one.

I was wondering yesterday WHY one would check for vanos travel.
    I suppose I've lucked/SKILLED out for years.

It requires 50 to 60 PSI for my vanos to work when testing, I was under the impression it should only require 40PSI... can anyone confirm?

Good on ya for checking. It's too much work to to go through to not do the quick Vanos travel check. The vanos check will also tell you if your solenoid is working or if the vanos is working correctly.

At one point I was getting weak vanos action which ended up being a small piece of debris at the vanos inlet orifice.

I just take the solenoid out. Power it up and watch the pin pop out. If it does, your good, if not, your screwed.

The pin works, to make the vanos move (when verifying vanos travel) it requires 50 to 60 PSI, I was under the impression it only requires 40PSI. My concern is that if my unit requires more than what it gets then vanos won't work.

Keep in mind that you are using 50-60 psi of air. I'm sure it's activating with a much lower oil pressure.

Ok, found the bmw bulletin, requires 2 to 8 bar so seems like 50 to 60 psi is good.
I'm getting 9.5mm travel VS nada from before taking it apart
