Here is a log at idle, steady RPM and AFRS but really low vacuum.

I had a high idle at one point, and was running -10 degrees of timing to keep the engine under 1000 RPM. (Turbo was spoolin !!!) My vacuum was also really low.

Thinking I had a leak somewhere, I did a smoke test on the entire intake/exhaust system. I plugged the exhaust pipe at the tip, and fed smoke into the engine at the throttle body:

I forget what the # was on the Motorvac, but basically I was passing the test just barely.....however that was with the entire exhaust system including 6 V-band connections, about 10 boost line connections, and the VAC line to the brake booster.

In the end, I found that I had the DBW throttle body open by 6%, because of a setup error.

You would have to retard the timing if you have a leak, to keep the idle speed down.

    What is your idle timing?

Current idle is spot on and my TPS as per the log is at 1%.
I don't have standalone and I'm running TRM tuning o my DME, no idea what timing they use for idle

As an FYI I have not updated the tune after adding schrick cams, not sure will make any difference other than bumping the RPM up... I noticed the car is running lean at wot as well which would make sense after upgrading the cams.

Why would cams add any more power at WOT than, say, another 2 psi of boost? I could see an idle issue but not a WOT issue.

I added Schrick cams recently to the same tune I have been running since 2010, that has run on a thicker headgasket S52, a built low compression S52, and a built low compression S52 with worked head and Schrick cams, and that has seen a GT3582R, a GTX4088R, an EFR8374 and an EFR9180, as well as a Boostlogic open, Steedspeed open, and twinscroll Steedspeed. Tune has been great with all combinations, but my vacuum did drop 2 inches to 16-17 from 18-19 with the big valve ported head and Schricks and the idle was a little high (so I adjusted the idle stop down a little). I will fiddle around more when I have time but may finally have done enough to need a retune.

Sucks cuz I just bought a Turbosmart for the new Steed. Why did they make them to specifically fit the Turbosmart? I thought Leen flow tested them? I'd have go back through the original thread....

Interesting, I was told by all tuners that whenever you modify your set up you have to adjust fuel and timing as needed
I drove the car today, with a 7spring and boost controller st up at 30% I see steady 13psi, I'm going to do a log to verify as is hard to check while driving
The low vacuum still there, something is off, car idles great but if you pay attention you can feel idle is not silky smooth, sort ofrunning more aggressive cams
I'm going to try and smoke test the system, next would be to check the timing and set it up as chikinhed does to see if that makes a difference.

All in all Bee is happy to be back on the road, open dump sounds great at WOT

Maybe at 20 psi the gate will be closed longer and it will spool better to maybe 15 psi when the gate opens to limit to 20.

    That's about when I see 10 psi in 4th with my s366sxe.

Actually just looked at the vid, I was getting 10psi on the street in 4th at 3400 on e85 with the s366sxe.

I tried a bunch of different cam timing settings and one of the settings that was recommended to me barely got me 15 psi by 6000 rpm. The more I went in the opposite direction the faster it spooled.

The low vacuum you have is indicating that you have more valve overlap (if there is no other issue) and the overlap will hurt spool with the exhaust manifold back pressure that you have from that turbo.

By going from the blocks setting on the Schricks to my current cam timing setting I cut the transient response time in half.

I was expecting to see 10 psi by early 3000 rpm, low boost and the 1.06 exhaust housing are not helping.

I was seeing 19 psi at just under 3200 rpm on the open T4 Steed, .82 turbine housing, 3" hot and cold pipes, 4" thick intercooler and same cams.

Maybe your WG is stuck open a bit.

Edit: I just checked a datalog and my car idles at 19-20"Hg with the Schricks.

Yeah I'm seeing 19-20 now with 264/256 as for spool and this TS manifold its total insane. So something is off with the yellow car. Mine is spooling this 6466 like a gt30.

The more research I do the more appears timing is off, low vacuum and late spool both point to late valve that
The rear cam squares might be off, read several posts about schrick cam with them not been correct

Were these new schricks ? Or unknown age ?
When I installed mine, I noticed a little more of a pita to install vs stocker.

My suggestion is to do a leak down test first just to rule it out.

Bought them used as new were not available at the time.
I noticed the same when installing, stock are easier to install.

Im researching for a good leak down test as I don't currently own one.
