A nice drop in like the Dry AFE would be the only option I'd consider.

I really don't need a loud intake to make me feel good about myself.

Its pretty clear that the only people who should be listened to here are the ones that actually use them so that you can get an actual educated response. For those of us that have them its pretty unanimous that we like them and what they do for the engine.
There is nothing you can say to that. You either have one or you dont.

This is a gross over-simplification but I believe it's out of emotion for the video the other guy posted. I don't think many members that don't have them hate them. If I had extra cash falling out of my pocket I'd buy one. I just haven't seen before/after numbers on the same dyno to prove anything. Butt dynos as we know are not accurate and most people would like to think their CAI they spent hard earned cash on is helping. I am not saying it isn't, I'm just saying there is no proof either way I have seen. So it seems kinda unfair to say the only people who can talk are the people who have the CAI. Imagine if someone was selling snake oil for our cars but we should only be listening to the people who bought the oil.

I'm not saying the CAI isn't badass, I have no clue. I just have no evidence to prove it but if you have it please provide!

Im not saying it def makes hp. But you can feel the engine is different. It responds faster. This has nothing to do with butt dyno. If you just sit in nuetral and rev the engine it will move up through the rpms faster. As many have noted the 540 sucks for rev matching on downshifts. This is a minor improvement but noticeable. On a side not anyone got a lwfw like the 13 lb jbracing?

As I mentioned earlier, I do have a so called cold air intake. I have countless data to support my claim that the factory setup is superior.

If you want to discuss meaningful intake design I'm all game. However, if you want to be the average Joe that falls for marketing gimmicks, I will call you on it every time.

This is my current intake. It draws air from the area that houses the secondary air pump.

Please do share. But he says he is right so i guess we should take his word for it, oh wait, thats not even an m62 in his engine. Hmmm

Bottom line is more air equals more. The cone has a way bigger surface area. As well as the fact that an oiled filter outflows a paper one anyway. Not much to dispute there.
You can try to say that the heat it draws is hotter but thats not true either. It sits in the same exact spot as stock except stock is inside a black plastic box. The afe unit is literally one inch from the "factory cai" ducts coming out of the fender so the factory being superior holds no ground.

    Factory:
Less air flow but has snorkel from bumper

Afe: more air flow and snorkel from bumper.

Im not sure what people dont understand here. Facts cant be disputed. It is what it is.
Is it night and day improvement? No absolutely not. Is it better? Yes slightly.

Nobody is taking anyone's word, but let's see what he can post to back his assertion.

Why does the cai always start such heated debates? Everysingle person that has one likes them. What more does one need to decide?

Stfu. You prob still have the thinner winter grade oil in your engine. Thats good for at least half an hp. Im not slow, your just a bit faster. I was behind you. I missed a shift or something.

That was interesting how you got sideways on a 1-2 shift on a straightaway

w/e im putting myself in the time out chair. see you tomorrow.
i have the means to actually do the non dyno testing. in about a month when i actually have ten minutes im going to test both styles for air mass at rpm as well as temperatures at different speeds.
for the record i dont expect much diff in temp unless the car is stuck in traffic. i only expect volume changes at load.

good bye cruel world. im going back into the matrix.

Cool...I've got a Tornado Fuel Saver for you buddy. Good for a 50hp gain...

Try removing the baffle and you'll get about the same results with less hassle and fewer dollars.
