Yes I tried this and it seemed to work as I went through all the stages successfully. However, when I tried to start the car, no crank. I now realize this is due to the fact that I used the new key transponder (as commented by Abel).

But if the synch actually worked, why is it that when I put back the old ecu and started the car with the old key transponder, it started right up (but still with the misfire that I am trying to cure with an ecu swap)? If the synch worked, then a new ISN should have been written to the EWS right?

    Thanks.

You are correct, your sync isnt working, which is why it wont start.

You need to use DIS with an ADS interface for these older cars.

Thanks all! And special thanks to 328_Power_04 for his DME EWS synch program. I finally got my friend’s E36 320i with EWS2 to run smoothly with an ECU swap then DME EWS alignment.

If you need a new key, the only way is to order them from the dealer with the Vin of the car the EWS module came from. This could be challenging if you don't have proof of ownership of the car that the module is from.
this is FALSE info dude. if u need a new key u need to go to the dealer??? Out of ur mind. I hope noone believes this misinformation. U can get blank keys cut and coded to ur EWS all day. U can even delete keys if u ever go past 10...smh

Could you walk me through how to do this or help me remotely? Sorry to revive an old thread but nobody seems to be able to help me with this issue. Car is a 1999 z3 with the m52tu and i believe it's ews3. I keep getting mixed info on whether or not I'll need an ADS adapter and a laptop with a serial port. Currently I have a modern laptop, a 20 pin adapter, and i ordered a k+dcan cable with the switch on the plug that should be arriving tomorrow because i was told this setup would do the job. Now I have other people telling me to go ahead and order an ADS adapter and find an older laptop so i'm a little mixed up at the moment. Bottom line is that I need to fix this crank no start issue whether that means realigning the dme & ews or deleting the ews entirely.

If it's not cranking (starter not spinning), then it is not a DME issue, and you are completely wasting your time with EWS delete. (When it's a DME to EWS issue, then the starter will crank as much as you want.)

You need to figure out the issue why it's not spinning the starter, or else the hypothetical EWS delete DME will do the exact same thing. EWS delete is not a fix for anything.
I would pull the codes in DME and in the EWS module as a starting point.

Your car does not need ADS or a serial port. The LCI (facelift) Z3 works fine over k-dcan and 20-pin port.
I put a good INPA pack here https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...xperimentation
all you need is on the first page.

The picture is not visible to us. So you are connected under the hood at the 20-pin port (use an adapter)?

Read codes in both the M5.2 ecu and the EWS module. If something doesn't connect, then let us know.

Does EWS module have power? Fuses for it are good?
