Hey All,
Quick question...I have only run street tires at the track in the past. I just picked up a second set of rims, so I'm looking for a good deal on a set of used R-compounds. I know this is a "your mileage will vary" situation, but by the looks of the tires below how many track days can I expect to get. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
MSH
Get a tread depth guage and see what ti says. Picture is not too clear, can you take a closeup picture of the tread?
Were these tires shaved?
Hmmm...Not sure...They are being sold by "Rich V" here locally in the SF Bay Area. He just sent me the pics as the tires are currently about 200 miles from here so I can't physically measure/look at them until he retrieves them from down SouthOriginally posted by 95m3racer

His words...
"The rears are definitely slicks now, with only a couple grooves down the middle circumference of the tire"

A more accurate way to tell would be simply to ask Rich V how many track days he used on them. If he did a lot, they could be done w/ their heat cycles..
Well if the rears are "almost slicks" That means they are toast. Use has many variables. If he used them twice hard, they can be toast, depends on camber, and how he drove.
Have him take depth, and some closeup "macro" pictures. See if there is any graining, or blisters, just the general condition of the tire.
From the pictures above they look finished though...
Went down that road already. He autocrosses only...no track daysOriginally posted by magnetic1

The outside edges of the top ones looked worn out. The bottom two are toast. They look shot for the most part.
If I was to use them I would only do so at an autocross.
I wouldn't pay for them, as freebies however......
Wouldn't take the chance on the track with those, not worth it.
They look to be unevenly worn
They look to be unevenly worn
Nope, pretty typical for a BMW with factory camber settings. After about 14 events on my victos last year they were less worn on the insides and the outer shoulder was about as worn as those are. No danger running them on the track, but I don't know how long they would last. The bottom two do look to be about done.
FWIW, my Victos were their stickiest at the end of those 14 events. Shocking. They are a very durable tire.
Yeah mine too, they are stickiest just before the cords pop out.Originally posted by SoloII///M
