Rear Sway Bar link bushings $11.99 Polyurethane at Autozone

I just changed my rear sway bar end link bushings to Energy Suspension polyurethane. Nice improvement over stock. Part # 9.8105R available at Autozone for 11.99 for a set of bushings and washers!

Has anyone used Energy components for the front and rear frame bushings? If so part numbers would be great.

    Thanks

I had a set for my rear swaybar, but never got around to installing them. They got gifted to someone at SoCal vintage last year. I've seen them on E21s though, work well.

    Bolt set up

They had a complete set with bushings that looked pretty close. The bolt was a little shorter but would fit, but not sure on the spacer.

OEM says that they're still available, your dealer should be able to get them for you. Or failing that, it's an M8x40, should be able to locate at auto parts store.

    thanks man

correction though, it says the bolt to bolt the mounting hardware to the subframe is M8x40 and the large bolt for the swaybar to trailing arm is M8x140

Yeah, I miss-interpeted what you were after. And that longer bolt is NLA. But as I mentioned in the PM, boltdepot.com has them...

Okay I have hopefully everything to do this. Here is what I have now in the pic(sway bar not in pics, but you know).

So what I have here is 2x 3/8" x 5.25" bolts with 4 nuts, 2x m8x40 with lock washers, plenty of bushings and washers. Seems like I bought the spacers for no reason, since they will not fit the 3/8" bolts. I'll most likely be returning them.

Anyway, did you have to up the end link bolts to a 3/8"? And how did you run an 8mm through the 3/8" bushing and avoid any play? The spacers won't fit through the bushings.

Have any pics of the install? I really need to know if I got everything right here so I can get it in on the next dry day.

Got the bolts for that application, a 10 pack. I'm using 4 of them for the Twins but the rest are up for cost+shipping. That's about $6 for both. Then you can use the sleeves.
You'd think that they would not have these as NLA and make people ask where to source them.....

    M8x140's zinc plated.

Anyone know the lenght of the factory sleeve? I'm not close to my hardware but there might be universal kits out there, we know the bolt is 8x140mm.

    Ok guys, there has to be something here that can be made to work;

Sleeve is 40mm, it fit right over the m8x40 bolt right to the end. $7.50/ea from the dealer.

Anyone have pics of any install of a 16mm rear sway bar, aftermarket or stock? I need a reference point as to if this will even work.

    This might work;

    http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ENS-9-8120R/

Is a bit longer than stock but you might be able to trim the spacer. It uses 3/8" bolt and spacer, spacer is 1.625" long.

Found me a reference picture now. Not the 16mm, but it helped me understand why that spacer is necessary. This bar will mount in the dimples, though, from what else I've seen correct?

Yeah it's needed with the stock bar, the opposite end of the bolt fits thru the hole in the trailing arm.

Let me preface this with the statement that I do not have a rear sway-bar- yet.
But correct me if I'm wrong (good odds...)
Theoretically you could make the "stock" sway bar slightly adjustable by using some all-thread and different length spacers, double nutting on both the top and bottom. Shorter spacer, stiffer bar, more oversteer, more fun.
    Right?

no. the attachment point, and thus leverage that the sway bar has over the suspension, will not change significantly by shortening the spacer.

    Talking Sway bar link-320i

Just did the rear in my buddy's car. Took 10 minutes on ramps on a slight cline so the car was level. Gt the univrsal kit from autozone for $20. Fet the one thats 1 5/8. Tear off the old rusted ones out and then snake the bolt and washers up. Its a tight fit to get the nut on but the right 9/16 socket and some good leverage can get it started. The kit is from energy suspension p/n 98120. Energysuspension dot com

Does anybody happen to know the length between mounting points?

MOOG sells endlinks in all lengths, as far as I can math the bolt is 140mm (which I'm certain is the shank, and does not count the bolt head), the spacer sleeve is 40mm, which leaves 100mm of exposed bolt shank. Some threads must show out the end after installed, (This part is a guess) I figure that's probably around 10-15mm of threads sticking out the end to allow for the nut. (140mm - 40mm - 15mm = 85mm) So that means the washers and bushings take up the rest. so each washer/bushing combo is about 21mm thick. If I had 21mm + 40mm sleeve + 21mm I get a mounting distance of about 82mm or 3.25" endlink mounting?

Does that seem about right, could anybody measure and confirm?

Pretty sure the post above you answers your question. Look up the energy suspension part number that ajdre11 posted on their website and it gives you 3.25" as the distance.

If anybody is curious, it's a 79 Ford Granada 5.0 that has the same end link length. Prices starting at a whole $1.35 a link from RockAuto.

    http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/f...+bar+link,7580

Technically the center sleeve is 1.275mm too long (1 5/8" vs 40mm), easy enough to shave down.

My Rockauto order showed up Friday, and with it the sway bar links I needed. Sleeve is indeed 40mm long. I ordered Ultra Power #K5255 end links for a 1979 Ford Granada for a whopping $1.31 each. Not sure why the rubber is blue, Rockauto photo shows black. It feels firmer than regular rubber, but nowhere as hard as Polyurethane.
