In my opinion the biggest mistake is to tighten the manifold nuts too much, the Bentley Manual for the E32 has a misprint, on section 113-26 it states:
    intake manifold to cylinder head 22 Nm = 17 ft-lb, NO! These are M6 studs, they require 10 Nm = 7.5 ft-lb.

Then also the 2 rubber mounting on each side are important, as they support the intakes, 18 Rubber Mounting 4 64536919520 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=11_0949

Max -- Do you recommend applying any kind of sealant to your gaskets (like Reinzosil) or do they go on dry? What torque setting did you use for your manifold nuts -- 7.5 ft-lb or 17 ft-lb?

quote: I re-installed the intake manifold adapters. I used some of Max's silicone gaskets and some gasket sealer as well just to make sure I have a good seal!

Are the BMW recommended torque settings for the IM nuts still valid when using Max's silicon gasket set? I imagine more compression will occur when his gaskets are used compared to just tightening the nuts against the hard factory IM gaskets. That's why I'm asking.

just for info: extra classic in Germany is also selling gasket sets for the M70 intakes. EURO 78.90/set + shipping. Translated: Product information "Gasket set for intake manifold V12 BMW E31 E32 E38 M70 S70 M73". 16-piece gasket set reproduction for 4x gasket flange of the intake manifold, fits 8 series BMW E31 850i, 850ci, 850csi, Alpina B12 5.0l / 5.7l. Further suitable for the 7 series BMW E32, E38 750i,750iL. a good price alternative to the BMW sealing flange (new price almost 500,-€) for the V12 engines M70, S70 and M73. This product solves a typical problem on the 7 + 8 series BMW with V12 engine. The original rubber gaskets (blocks) are reused, a prerequisite for a good end result is that they are in order, so no cracks or the like. The newly inserted gaskets restore the (shrunk) rubber to its original preload when the screws are tightened, thus ensuring a reliable seal. The flat gaskets have a rubber coating + therefore do not require additional application of sealing compound. Temperature resistant up to 250°C. Extremely robust and durable, plus resistant to: fuel, oils, gas, alcohols, water and water vapor, as well as basic chemicals. Suitable for the 12-cylinder engines M70, S70, M73, and Alpina B12 5.0 l and B12 5.7 l. Scope of delivery: 16-piece handmade gasket set as flat gaskets. The 4 rubber blocks are not part of the delivery. Comparison numbers: BMW 11611736656 (gasket flange) BMW 11611736657 (sealing flange)
