Amazing work and attention to detail. Brilliant job as always roger
I can check - it was some high-temp paint I had which is very durable.
As an update, I have not been able to do much due to the recent surgery and then last Wednesday Marcia's father passed away so I have been gone for that. I have received the gold replacement ALPINA stripe kit, and hope to get it on next, then the front bumper.

8/17/2014 UPDATE
--------------------------------
I was able to get back to the car this weekend. Marcia is still at her father's home settling the estate along with her sister, so it gave me the weekend to get alot done. Plus, the doctor finally said I could lift more than 10 pounds
Here is what I accomplished:
1. Got the ALPINA strip kit on. This took almost 8 hours measuring, re-measureing, setting everything up, and finally going for it.
2. Got the front bumper on complete with new center grills, grills, and New Euro FTP strips in (I have had these waiting for several years). I also replaced the trim at the front edge of the fenders and put on tape pieces along with the new 5.0 badge.
3. Completed the rear valence.
4. Tightened up some of the remaining bolts in the rear end that were not torqued yet
5. Finished up the interior. I put the steering wheel back in, uncovered the pedals I purchased 3 years ago ( I have had them on and covered with tape), and placed the sunroof cover with the refinished ALPINA plaque. Plus some other items. It is good to have the interior done!!
Here are some pictures:
Placing the tape stripes - notice all the blue tape where measurements were marked out.
Front Bumper and trim:
New Badge:
The two small black tape pieces at the corners of the hood. These make sure the black line is continuous when you close the hood (especially noticeable on lighter cars). In retrospect, I think I would have just cut them out of black electrical tape - it looks like the same stuff you get from BMW:
On the car:
ALPINA plaque.
Pedals. Also note the Original ALPINA floor mat. You can not get these anymore - I am just lucky the car came with them:
Steering Wheel. I took the airbag wheel out and put in an original wheel I found from Europe, as this is the way the car was delivered in Japan:
So I accomplished alot this weekend, and now I need the week to recover.....
More to come....got to get this done for Eurofest!

Roger, that is, to use one of the most over used words in the language IMO, looking AWESOME I can't wait to see it in person. That alone will be worth the trip to SC.
Mike
Thanks for the info on these black tape sections Roger - after reading this I had a look at mine, to find they're both damaged & need replacing.
And you're right - on a silver car, the resulting break in the black line is quite noticeable with bonnet/hood shut.
I'll try the black tape method you've suggested.
I know I've said it before, but again.....beautiful work you're doing.

As much as I hate to see the "m" word used in relation to any E31, I have to agree with the sentiment.

How'd you settle on the placement of the Alpina decal? Or does it come with a guide of some sort?
I am sure (and know for a fact) that Roger did quite a bit of research on that. When I was in Munich at the 25th Anniversary Event, I looked at several ALPINAs, and a few of them had their decals replaced, and it was real obvious that they were in the wrong location.
The work Roger has done to this car is nothing short of amazing!!

9/8/2014 UPDATE
--------------------------
I have been away for a week, so yesterday after getting home I was able to do a little more. I finished out the front wheel wells with new liners and replated bolts. Sorry for no pictures, but I did not get started until 4 in the afternoon. This week the tires will be remounted on the refinished wheels - just waiting for one more Toyo tire to come in.
As you may know, BMW has contacted me to put the car in the Zentrum Museum at the factory in Spartansburg in time for Eurofest, so my target completion date is September 28...LOTS to do to get there.........
.....more to come

9/11/14 Update
----------------
Not able to get out to the garage for much on the car the last few evenings due to work, but have been doing the little things. As many know, the orange sticker on the rear bumper for the batteries has been very hard to get (not sure if it is NLA or what), so I had some reproductions made. Also had some other stickers done, and picked them up last night. Hope to post pictures this weekend.

9/16/2014 UPSDATE
---------------------------
Was able to get some work done among other things and having to be gone 2 days (Sunday and Monday), but did make some more progess:
1. Replaced the door step trim. I ended ordering the trim from the 5.7 as the trim was pretty dry-rotted on the 5.0 and needed to be replaced, plus the extra chrome the 5.7 door sill trim has adds a little more pop.
2. Removed all the brake line fixtures under the car, cleaned the lines, and replaced the cleaned clips.
3. Fitted the Rocker Panels and new bottom door seals.
4. Had the new tires mounted on the refinished rims.
5. Completed all the trim under the hood.
A big day is coming - hopefully this weekend as I hope to start the car for the first time in almost 2 1/2 years. I am keeping my fingers crossed!
My target completion date is 9/27 so I can get it to the Zentrum.....lots of little stuff to do.

9/21/2014 UPDATE
-------------------------
As many of you read in the separate thread, yesterday I got the car back on the ground for the first time in over 2 years and running. Bad thing was I had a coolant leak into the passenger interior footwell when I went to bleed the system and turned the heat on, and traced it to a bad BRAND NEW BMW heater core. Now the dash is all torn up again and I will call first thing tomorrow morning to get a new core overnighted. In the mean time, here is what all I accomplished...
All new stickers, including some I had to make myself as they are NLA,
Wheels back on and torqued,
Rear collar nuts rechecked and then the safety areas bent back into the recesses
On the headlight covers, I painted the tabs black where the screw goes on the rear
Plus some more little items.
I have a little glitch in the locking, as the passenger door and trunk do not want to lock. Will have to sort it out.
Now, just to wait on the new heater core!
