Just an update - the Alpina is on its way home. The car was moved from the Zentrum and placed on display in the BMW CCA Foundation as the Zentrum needed room for some function taking place. It was picked up on Tuesday from the Foundation to come back home. Can't wait to see it again.

Thanks Ed. Sorry though,,,,no Vroom Vroom sounds - at least from my mouth. I once had a garage queen that was only taken out 1 to 3 times a year - that was our 3.0 CS with only around 25,000 miles on it which we sold in 2004. The BMW Club used to call it anl "Elvis Sighting" when I would take it out. I swore I would never have a car again I at least did not drive more often.

I hope you can bring her to The Southeast Sharkfest the weekend of April 25th (Asheville, NC), the Pinehurst Concours May 2 (Pinehurst, NC) , and/or The Vintage May 23 (Winston-Salem, NC)

Can't believe I hadn't seen this before now. Outstanding work. I know what you went through as my dad and I have done this a few times to his Datsun Z's. The cad plating and textured finish on the manifolds really make the bay!

Thanks for the comment. Here is tip that is worth a thousand words. Go to your Harley Davidson Dealer, and ask for the rattle can of textured paint - they have two types - one krinkle and one texture. It what they use on Harley Davidson blocks when they repair them or touch them up. Great Stuff - gets even better with heat! That is what is on the intake manifolds. One word of advice - spray it on and don't watch it - it takes about 2 hours to "Krinkle up". Fantastic paint - a little pricy, but the results speak for themselves. It takes a couple of days to fully cure and set.

Great tip, thanks!!! I was planning on doing some more parts in the wrinkle finish on my touring but didn't feel like sending them off for powdercoat. I just so happen to have a Harley dealer right down the road from me too.

I've been following your touring, from your posts in TCL. This has lead me to considering LS swaping my touring.

I am new to the Bimmer forum and I own a 1991 E31 with ~ 65000 miles on the odometer and I have owned many nice automobiles but the E31is my dream car. It is Calypso Red metallic and I have been the caretaker of this car for the last 16 years. You should be applauded for the time and effort to restore your E31 to such a very high level. Thank you for reminding me of how special this particular car is.

I just saw this thread for the first time. Awesome effort and result. I will make it to a CCA event near you to see the car in person. I am in Ft. Lauderdale and have a '92 850 CSi and a '12 B7. (as well as a '85 635CSi and a '88 M6). I appreciate both, but the combination of Alpina and 8 series is over the top.

Yes...the B12 5.0 was sold a couple of months after it got back home. Someone called me and it was gone in a few days. But, I had already found a replacement - a 95 B12 5.7. It is nearing the end of a similar restoration. Hope to have it done in the next month or two...
