Back in an e39. Kind of. With a question.

My sister picked up a 99 528iT 5spd and it has seemed to be a great buy so far. I only drove it a little but I like forward to being back in an e39 whenever I want and being back in here with all my stupid questions.

With that said the only current issue I have is that the driverside rear door won't open. I'm assuming its a bad door actuator or something but it won't open from the outside. Here's the kicker though - When I looked at the car, being the typical idiot that I am, I wasn't thinking and had the door open. I decided to click the child lock back and forth to see if it would trigger anything but when I closed the door I left the lock active so now I can't open it from the inside either.

I'm sure all of you that know me will get a great kick out of this but once your done laughing I'm open to ideas on how to open this Fin thing.

Olek- that stinks man...I would say the best way to get it open is to pull the back seats and pull of the door panel to access the inside of the door. From there you should be able to pull on the linkage to get the door open.

I believe with a bad actuator stuck in the locked position it wouldn't allow you to have opened it from the inside. I believe you've got an exterior handle problem. You need to get the door open first in order to correct the handle problem. Roll down the window, pull the lower rear seat, pull the left rear seat back, pull the interior trim piece at the bottom of the door, pull the welting from around the door, remove screws from the door panel, use a plastic trim removal tool and release the green clips then give a good pull in the upward direction. Once off you should have access to the locking mechanisms.
Don't worry about us laughing at you, we never do, we laugh with you. But I sure your sister is not amused at what you did, suggest a complimentary oil change to make amends, after repairs are complete. Just my .02

Nah my sister thinks its hilarious as did I. It won't be as funny to me on Saturday when I'm taking it apart but it won't be the end of the world either.
