Looks like we have it lucky from a cost perspective up here in Sask, CAN. They charge a one time fee of $75 to do a search to make sure no one else has it, to make sure it is not something derogatory, and for physically making the plate. There is no additional annual charge, love it!
^ In england, the cheapest private plates you can get are about $500, and they don't mean anything, just maybe your initials + some random letters and numbers, or, if your lucky, a max of 7 letter work with numbers, but the ones that mean something are in the $10,000+ range, a numberplate that said "F1" sold for a few million, and "oo7" for one million, others like e.g. "B1ACK" (meaning black) sold for $500,000. You have it easy in the states, I think every UK resident is jealous

I've thought about getting a set for my 8 but I've decided that a little anonymity is better. The car is so distinct that folks know I've arrived, or I'm in the 'hood, or I was at the pub or grocery store etc. There's no privacy at all whilst driving around in an 8 IMO.

you need a NINJA plate. black, stealthy, invisible.
Mine has a double meaning twist. UZ4PLAY
A. Use for play
B. Use foreplay
Or... Uzi for play....

I fully agree (plus I really hate the idea of paying even more to NY State DMV for the annual registration fee if I had a vanity plate). Given my driving habits with my 8'er, (and it's FE red, too), the last thing I would want is any additional attention from the local law enforcement agencies.

They finally came in. Unfortunately they no longer stamp them like the regular plates, looks like the entire image was silk-screened on a flat panel, kinda cheap looking up close. Disappointing.
I'm not saying you're stupid, I'm saying you have bad luck at thinking.

No, not young, but I have teenage boys I've only had mine since Oct '11 and absolutely loving it. Washed it today, took it for a quick spin down to Griots Garage. I drive it once a week (with all this rain), but will drive it more when our so-called summer arrives.
Wow! 6-8 weeks, up here.

We don't have personalized license plates here, but at least I was able to get a plate with the numbers 95-12 (1995, V12).
