I know a company that does it and you mail your unit out and pay like... too much, and then it comes back with an aux in.
Has anyone done it themselves? I don't feel like buying a radio right now but want to put my phone through so I can play music and take calls easier. I don't mind using the 1/8" stereo output, but the headunit obviously doesn't have that.
Thanks yo
theres a DIY around here somewhere for it. a friend of mine did this. just take it apart and have a look at the outputs for the tape deck. i believe its only 3 wires. ones for left and ones for right, the others a ground. ima look around, im curious.
this radios newer, but same concept

There was an article in Roundel a few years ago that showed how to DIY this in an E30. I scanned the article and linked it into a thread, but it's been at least a year and a half ago. It is a pretty easy mod.

You have to pull the wires off of the "head" for the cassette player. They are basically l/r audio inputs. You can solder. The wires and leave the input hanging out of the cassette door. I also saw someone actually rigged an ipod dock in the radio so you inserted the ipod like a cassette and docked it.

I was considering doing the same thing, but I got lazy and bought a wireless transmitter that plugs into the bottom of my iphone. Can answer call and play music with it. Sound quality is pretty damn good.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Blaupunkt-...item3f058a8dc7
would this work on the cd43?

I just use a casette adapter to plug my phone in, which is much cleaner than the wireless transmitters in my experience.
I'm sure the price to labor comparison is more favorable to the adapter, unless you're just looking for something to do.

Anybody still have this info? I'm going to add AUX in to tape player, was looking for ideas
I have used Mediabridge Duo in the past. But, it sounds like you want to fabricate something on your own. It's certainly been done, and I've seen already modified units for sale in that auction site.

I did it to my e32- this is the Roundel magazine version. I didn't like the low volume- plus, I can't make sense of the wire colors anymore. I would search for the "tapping into the cassette board" method, or just use a tape adapter.
Why? A good used modern headunit is 20-30 bucks for one with CD and AUX capability. Finding one that isn't overwrought/blingy/ugly, though, is another matter. My Kenwood KDC-MP145 is ok. Nakamichi looks best but is pricey.

Wanted to keep it look original
"Original" is good. Obsolete is what other brands sell today.
Get a CD43 head unit and a MediaBridge DUO. You'll enjoy the greatly improved sound and the simplicity of adapting to an AUX-in set up.
^or Becker Traffic Pro, same deal. About the most up-to-date performing and looking, OE head units for these cars.
Ok, for some reason I can't find any good description on how MediaBridge DUO actually works. I only see box and wired.
CD43. What is the reason? MediaBridge works with it? Or it's just better head? Is it direct swap with original?

Any pointers? On auction site there is many for this name, but they don't really look OEM. Round-ish buttons, different colors. And what is that exactly?
I'm sorry for lame questions, I just don't know anything about that era radios. In E39 I used some adapter + Alpine CD changer with my MP3s, that's all I know about older radios..
Yes, yes, and yes.
Mine came with a harness that fit between the 17 pin radio harness and the radio, otherwise, it's a trunk installation between the CD changer and the CD43. European Auto Source in CA used to sell them. Not sure they do not, but worth a call especially on the harness. I believe Audiovox now makes what used to be called the mediabridge. You might find them on that auction site.
Indeed, the Becker Traffic Pro (BE4769) is the nuts. Especially if you can get one that lights up with "BMW" in the proper orange color when you turn it on. Very sophisticated piece of equipment as it has GPS (underdash antenna sold separately), etc. But be prepared to shell out some bucks for this one. Sound is a full cut above the CD43, too. Plus, the CD function can be programmed to be the AUX-in. Very cool! The best unit I've had so far and I've had stock, CD43, and Becker.
OK I did it with my Business RDS Procedure: https://www.bmwfanatics.co.za/showthread.php?tid=74167
BMW Business RDS.jpg
now I'm going to do it for the BMW C43 (NOT CD43) procedure : https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...h-C43-headunit

As Greg said, the BMW Traffic Pro is typically $$, but it has BMW orange lighting, BMW logo on startup, etc. This same head unit was in many period Porsches and Ferraris, with different OEM lighting and branding.
Many CD43s are not even BMW-specific; the ones with a sideways ///M badge are usually from a Land Rover I believe. The CD43 requires more kit to play an iPhone/what have you, while the Traffic Pro has an Aux function you hook up to via the CD changer plug.
Just Google Becker Traffic Pro BE4769 and you'll see a few youtube videos to see what we're talking about.
Also, one for sale: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-BMW...AAAOSwhilZZyUE But please be seated before you open...$$$!

$640-ish shipped? Sheesh. I paid $330 shipped from a well-known forum source and that felt like a lot...it was in perfect shape, though.
