    Exclamation FS: 1982 Lapisblau 323i

For Sale Lapisblau 1982 Gray Market 323i E21 236,500 miles

Well gentlemen I may regret this but it’s time for me to part with my 1982 Lapisblau 323i E21. I’ll go ahead and be transparent the car does have a salvaged title, many of you may remember this car when it first became available, it was salvaged due to needing a new hood, and new fender. As you are all aware market value for our cars is not worth much, only to the enthusiast. As such because this car experienced minor damage worth more than what KBB said it was the insurance totaled it. However, the good news is that I made the grueling journey through the State Ref, CHP, and DMV to have a new VIN assigned in California, and have it inspected and signed off as good to go imported legal grey market BMW (this was a 6 month process and took several hundred dollars to perform).

History: Car was imported in mid 90’s from what I was told, I am aware of the previous 2 owners, which are both enthusiast on this board. I’ve owned the car since June 2007 and bought it with 229k on the ODO, it now has 236.5k on the clock. I’ve changed the oil 5 times since I had it (recently as of October for SoCal Vintage), and in July of 2007 I replaced all fluids, diff/trans got Redline. You can put your wife’s wedding dress under this car and not worry as it will not leak any type of fluid. The engine pulls very strong, starts right up, will idle all day without a hiccup or overheat, and is in great mechanical shape. There is no A/C from factory, although heat works perfectly.

So here is what you get:

    Engine
    • M20B25 swapped from late model E30
    • It has a Schrick cam, duration is unknown
    • Chip unknown
    • Lightweight Flyweel
    • Everything else is stock
    • 2 ANSA rear mufflers with chrome tips (sounds great at idle and WOT, no drone at all)

    Driveline
    • Getrag 260 5 speed from a late model E30
    • 3.73 LSD

    Suspension
    • Bilstein Sports
    • Ground Control Coil Overs rates are 400#/450#
    • ST sway bars f/r
    • Urethane steering rack bushings
    • Urethane sub-frame mounts
    • Urethane sway bar bushings
    • Vented front rotors
    • Rear disk brakes
    • 15x7 3 piece Epsilon wheels with Falken Azenis RT-615’s in 205/50/15 with 7k miles on them, color matched Lapisblau

    Exterior
    • All Euro
    • E-Code head lights and high beam
    • Clear Euro corners
    • Quad rear smoked tail lights
    • E30 iS rear deck spoiler

    Interior
    • Momo type Steering Wheel
    • Black Corbeua TRS Racing Seats
    • Black Tweed rear seats, rear panels, and front door panels
    • Volt/Oil Pressure pod/gauges
    • E24 e-brake surround
    • Leather shift boot
    • Pioneer head unit, with 6x9’s in the rear
    • BavAuto dash cover

    Extra Parts
    • I have a pair of remanufactured and machined to bolt on Volvo Girling 4-piston calipers, and a pair of E36 rear calipers to bolt on that will go with the car
    • Comes with 6 rebuilt Bosch Design II 19# Injectors
    • New tie rod end links
    • Extra pair of rear tail light covers

    Issues
Slight rust bubbles under the paint around the driver side B-pillar
There is some rust on the welds in the truck, the previous owner reinforced the diff and welded a bracket to the bottom of the trunk along the frame and didn’t paint over the welds
Slight damage to the pass side fender. Happend when I had blown shocks, these were replaced with Bilsteins and GC CO's
    Needs a working defrost button
Hazard switch needs to be fixed or replaced
Cig lighter is on the fritz, needs to be rewired
Slight oxidation to the clear coat of the roof and C-pillars
Passed smog in August of 2011, good till August 2013. May need new cat soon

This E21 is known in the Legion, it’s been to a lot of the local shows and many of you have seen it, maybe one of you will want to own it. Car is located in Riverside County area in SoCal. If you’re serious send me a PM, test drives encouraged.

    ***SOLD***

Wow you are selling this one? Why? Too many e21s?

Anyway...its worth IMO more that what you are asking, so clean and with the engine swap 5-6K at least...

Good luck with the sale, and at least its not your 320.

Edit: just noticed the Ansa mufflers on the rear, they are different from mine with a single tip rather that a dual one...where did you find these?

Yes, ditto on the Ansa question - where and when did you get these?

The Ansa cans came with the car when I bought it, not sure the model, but they sound pretty awesome.

Interesting...I have the dual tipped ones, and I am going to put them on, but in MA, you can not have any aftermarket exhaust. How loud are they at full throttle?

2nd question how hard was it to build coils, and you used 400 front 450 rear? Is that what I should run? How do you like this setup.

Also i thought 323i had something different that a 3.73 LSD - where did this come from? Was this on the car?

Joe I posted a clip of the exhaust in the original post. They make the beautiful baby 6 sound great, has that nice higher than most high pitch rasp that is typical with BMW's straight sixes, there is a mean grumble at idle, but it has no drone at constant highway speeds.

Coils were as easy as pie, I didn't build them they are from GC (as noted in the original post). The set up as is, is a much easier on the driver than on my 320, this is due to the fact that I am still using the OEM strut bushings/bearings, if I had camber plates the ride would be too stiff. The rates are just fine in my opinion for street.

    LSD came with the car.
