My 2007 530i has 187,000km on the clock. After a few grands put into it, the car is back in business, relatively speaking of course.

We are at 116k with our 08 535xit. Had it since 30k. We are glad the hydraulics for rear hatch were done under the extended warranty which expired a couple of years ago. Other than that it has been a great car and we will keep it a few more years. Replacing front tension struts now, turbo wastegates are rattling on cold start so I have some projects but nothing unexpected given the age and mileage and complexity of car.

We bought our 2006, 530XI with 93K on the clock. We are now at 105k, and the following has been done under extended warranty.
    New transmission
    New A/C pump
    New fuel pumps
    New battery

    I did the following
    New rear shocks
New rear brake wear sensor and pads
    New front disks and pads
    New taillight seals
    Upgrade halo to LED bulbs
    Replace oil cooler seal
Flush/refill liftgate hydraulic pump, which avoided replacement.

The extended warranty which cost us $3700 has covered the $11k or so of major repairs. I have spent about $1K on parts and extended warranty deductible, and put in 15 - 20 hrs in labor. It is important to note that we paid $14K for the car. Yeah, repair costs have literally ben more than we paid for the car.

So then, my experience is that a 2006 E61 is really designed with engineered obscolescence in mind. At 100K, a bunch of major systems fail. However, now that all those major components have been replaced, we figure the 530 should be good to go for another 100K.

We love driving the car, but if you are looking to buy an E60/61 that is near the 100K mark, you better be a GOOD mechanic with an INPA diagnostic computer, or have an extended warranty.

I have a 2008 535xi with 178k miles. The ccc unit is bad, the turbos need to be replaced but still drivable no smoke just rattling and cannot accelerate hard without error code coming up. Today it is throwing a P310E code running rough and reduced power cannot drive. normal battery replacement, rear tailight assembly needed replacement, coils and plugs, brakes, normal rear and tear items.

I have almost 130k miles (purchased in Nov. of 2011 at 48k miles) on SP 535i and still running strong. Had Walnut blasting at 100k miles. Water pump replaced x3. Interior seats, including driver's bolsters in like new condition. I don't perceive worn suspension (shocks, etc.) What are the signs of needing replacement?

Wanted to revive this thread, as it is very helpful to see what others have repaired/addressed.

Bought my 08 528i in late 2012 with 52K, my first BMW. Now at 123K.

    Have done:
Replaced two tires three different times
Replaced front and rear brake rotors and pads
brake fluid change every 2 years
Replaced oil filter housing gaskets (myself)
    Replaced battery (myself)
Replaced two ignition coils and spark plugs (myself)
    Water pump/thermostat
    Transmission fluid and pan
    Replace radiator cooling fan
Eccentric shaft (camshaft) position sensor + valve cover gasket
    Starter motor
    Serpentine belt, tensioners, roller (pre-emptive)
    Coolant expansion tank hose

Total cost of all maintenance and repairs in five years has been $8,000, with $5,000 of that the past two years. All repairs I did not do myself were done at my local indy.

About to replace suspension bushings to address shaking on hard braking that does not appear to be brake rotor runout.

Needs: A/C work because air does not always blow cold when cabin is warm (though does sometimes; here's hoping it's a bad ambient temp sensor).

Engine runs very sweetly, loves to play and uses only about half a quart of oil between 13,000-mile oil changes (I use Blackstone used oil analysis to verify that this interval is sufficient for me).

Wondering whether I should pre-emptively replace the alternator to avoid random failure/tow.

I am definitely shooting for 150K miles or at least two more years of use, and based on what I am seeing here, I may even go for more.

    2010 535i 6-speed manual with 92500 miles.

bought it in 1/2/2018 and love it. then got p0172 code a week after purchase.

code is gone for now since i replaced the following parts:
    spark plugs
    ignition coil pack

also replaced/changed the following since purchase
    rubber mats
    rear brake pads
    both rear window lifters
    cleaned up carbon build-up
bunch of random trim clips (trunk, door panel, engine cable management, skirt, etc. from ebay and aliexpress)
unclogged rear passenger door drain (water in door panel)
engine oil filler cap (leaking, which caused engine oil into cylinders 2 and 3)

if p0172 comes back, then will replace o2 sensor next. so far I find carly for bmw and torque app helpful.

also changing manual transmission fluid and rear diff fluid in the next week or so.

Wow. That beats my dad's 530i, which has just over 32K miles now! People honestly mistake it for the next gen 2012 5 because he takes such good care of it, We weren't sure if another E60 5-series had such low mileage! Love the 5-series.

I like to drive my fun cars rather than park them to preserve them for their next owner while I drive some boring car. The more miles I drive it the better life is!

    Winter tires- $1000

Total repairs over the last 6 years, 40,000mi are easily over $12,000

These cars are not cheap, and waiting to fix something, means youre likely damaging other systems and digging the cars grave. I expect to have to do drive shaft bushings next.

In post 305 from 2017, I reported 116k on our E61 535xi. Now at 152k. About to do another round of maintenance, including turbos and water pump And motor mounts and oil pan gasket. Just did the pulleys and belt. Will do the transmission after that — solenoids, gaskets, pan and fluid (did gaskets and pan and fluid once before). Then I will focus on suspension — dud front struts and springs and front strut rods but I think it needs more.
