This is my biggest concern, in the last two days coming and going to work, (about 40 minute drive 3/4 is on the hi-way), as I come to a stop at red light I notice the car is vibrating minorly, it is not there all the time it fades in and out lasting about 2-3 seconds.
Once I start driving I can not notice anything wrong.
Yesterday and today I start up the car and a decent amount of smoke comes out I believe on the left side exhaust, it might be both sides but can tell for sure.
It last for a few seconds and then its all gone, on the way into work I noticed no vibration wile the car was still not fully warmed up.
But once the car came up to the proper tempter the minor vibration came back at stop lights, no visible smoke wile driving.
Why no codes with the vibrating/smoking issue ?
Today I'm hearing some minor wine hard to describe, and almost stalled.
I hope I'm not hamming the converters or the engine.
I wish a check engine light would come on and store a code,
then I might have some sort of ideal what to look for.
What color was the smoke?
Pull your plugs and see if they are oil fouled
With the car running, pull the oil dipstick. Report back
Ride it like you stole it

If it's blue then you're burning oil. Not hard at all to pull plugs.. find yourself a 5/8 deep socket and an extension. Remove the acoustic dampener, remove the plastic covers that have BMW on them unscrew with a 10mm socket, lift the injector clips and remove the wiring, unscrew the bolts holding the coil in place and then use the deep socket to pull the plug.
You'll probably see oil pooled in between the chambers
Sounds like what my last 740i did (95). It was the PCV plate on the back of the intake.
Yes, sounds like pcs/osv...
How I figured it was my issue is I pulled the vac line off the back of it and felt for wetness. My vac line was saturated with oil as mine was pretty bad after a short time.
Replacing it with the intake on the car is a PITA but dooable. I forget what the torx size was but I am sure someone on here knows off hand. I bought a tiny ratchet wrench that came with some normal screw driver bits from Sears for $10. Put some tape around the torx bit so it wouldnt slip out of the tiny open end ratchet and removed the bolts one by one.
After breaking the wrench I discovered the right angles to hit and was able to use a standard 1/4" drive ratchet with a bit to get it all together. Took me a solid hour to do it.

quick question that I need to know is,
How is the oil getting into the internal part of the motor cussing it to smoke on start up?
And sometimes to vibrate wile idling???

The PVC that does part of the oil separation has deteriorated and is allowing oil to get into the intake when only the gases should be. So the oil pools in the intake manifold and burns through your exhaust when you start the car.Originally Posted by BMW M7
I don't know about the shaking, but it may be a vacuum leak caused by the same issue. My car also had the same problem as well as the oil separator in the front of the engine under the timing chains which is a lot harder to fix. And you also want to do your spark plugs because they are probably fouled now.

its the oil separator in the rear of the engine. wen it go's smoke comes out of the exhaust.
BMW M7: If the rear CCV has not been changed yet then I'd just change it for good measure. Pretty cheap insurance and peace of mind for me. Also, are you have any valley pan gasket leaks? You can check by pulling off the acoustic cover and look at the passenger side rear of the motor (between the intake manifold and top of motor) for signs of coolant leaks. If you see a leak, I'd change the valley pan gasket at the same time as changing the the rear CCV.
Lots of wite ups on here as well as e38.org on how to do this. Good luck.

Go oem only! Aftermarket will go bad quickly!
BMW M7, did the replacement of your OSV/PCV solve your issue with the shaking and smoke?
