    *ticking* noise on cold starts

Some mornings that its real cold, when I start my car there is a ticking noise coming from underneath and I cant seem to figure it....I never have the time in the morning to locate it and once I drive it that day it doesnt do it anymore, it usually only lasts a couple minutes and it increases in volume/speed with revving....

    its pretty loud...

That would be normal. Using thicker oils help, but is not really necessary. During a cold morning with the Redline 10w-40 in my car it'll make some odd noises for a minute or two. Don't worry about the ticking noise, in fact you will still hear a similar noise faintly after the engine is warm. I believe that sound is part of the intake system and neither is an issue.

If it still worries you go to a bmw dealer and ask a tech. to come over and listen, maybe give you an idea whether its really a problem.
I'm sure that won't cost you anything but time.
