    When Janders had the supercharged, auto 540 it was a dog out of the hole with the stock diff. A 3.64 LSD would have made a huge difference.

    I've got a 3.64 sitting around here as well. Just figured the 3.45 would be better all around. Especially as it was a custom built diff for another M-Sport auto that had upgraded tranny software. And I've the the matching software that the 3.45 was built for...

    Is the 3.64 an open or LSD? Really, either of those ratios will be a vast improvement. Iirc that 3.45 is an open diff?

    They're both open. But I do also have an S3.91 I can pull the LS carrier out of to make either the 3.45 or 3.64 LS...

    So I've had Tim's old partial ESS kit sitting here now for a week. And I am wondering if anyone has an E34 specific parts list or E34 specific installation instructions? He gave me E39 install instructions. But not so sure what is different about the E39 kit vs the E34 kit. For instance it talks about a different AC line that needs to be installed, but I don't ever recall that being mentioned in the E34 applications.

    And it looks like I will need a few more things to complete the kit than I was thinking going by the E39 instructions. Fan spacer, dipstick tube, charge pipe, MAF couplers & filter, crank pulley, idler pulley, engine mount bracket (looks like I have the SC mount, just not the engine mount bracket) possibly the AC line, small hardware stuff, chip, oil return line, and ?

    And what all was found to not be ideal in the ESS kit?

    I know that the 803 MAF is supposed to be plug and play eliminating the need for the resistor in the MAF wiring. Have an 803 MAF. And were the injectors in the kit not big enough? Am trying to recall injector info and seeming like it comes with 30lb injectors and 42lb actually work better?

    You need an oil cooler.

    Sneed might have a few of those parts that he pulled off that are still lying around. I was thinking that you may want to forget about the mechanical fan and go with the Volvo electric fan conversion. These are a known failure with older BMWs and when they come apart, it's not pretty.... BoldUlysses just pulled two from the junkyard today... might be a worthwhile investment (and cheap insurance) for under $100. I don't remember changing any AC line.

    Oh, I know. Like I said it's on the list. It's just a ways down the list. If a really good deal popped up on one it'd move higher up the list. Not woried about it at the moment.

    Oh, I fully know what happens to old plastic mechanical fans. Which is why my fan isn't old. And honestly M60 based cars don't usually loose fans to old age. They loose fans due to busted engine mounts. Hence my Revshift purchase. At some point I'll probably throw a Zionsville on the car and maybe go to an electric fan then. See if I can go with something that fits a little better than the Volvo fans do.

    Bubba, I have an two M5 oil coolers. One ill be using but the other I could let go of. Let me know what you might want for it. I'm in Vancouver and ill be heading down to Sumas to pick up some stuff from my shipping house in the next couple weeks so I could send it off easily enough.

    The M5 oil cooler is part #17 21 2 226 810 an is specific to the S38. I would need the oil cooler with part number 17 21 2 243 456 which is specific to the M60. And I would also need the M60 oil filter housing w/oil cooler ports that is part # 11 42 1 745 562. Nik made the comment as he has a housing & cooler set up for sale that are M60 specific. And he has them up at a decent price. If that was higher up on my to do list I would not hesitate to pick it up from him.

    So thanks anyway for the offer kingp1n for the oil cooler. But they are very different coolers with very different connectors for the oil lines and it would cost more to make the M5 cooler work than it would to just buy a proper M60 cooler.

    M5's in Europe need oil coolers because you can cruise at 120 mph all day long on the Autobahn. What can you cruise on US highways? It might be helpful in Arizona flats in the summertime.

    120 in a 5 speed 3.91 equipped M5 is right about 5k rpm.

    I didn't do anything to the A/C line... Better way to do it might be listing what you have and then we can help you fill in the blanks. One thing missing is the ESS PCV plate.

    Regarding the 803 and injectors... with a wideband hooked up, using standard ESS tuning, the car ran VERY lean on 30LB injectors with the 803 and no resistor. Happened to have some 42# injectors laying around, threw them in, and the AFR's were in the mid 12's. The plug for the 803 has to be modified... there are some plastic "guides" that keep it from being plug and play... Janders and I cut them out and it plugged in fine.

    So you don't have the piece on the top right?

    Thanks Kris, I was hoping you could chime in here.

    I'll get a pic up tomorrow of what I have. Am getting to sleep right now so it's a bit late for me. I do have the ESS PCV plate. What's different about it? Just that additional fitting added to it? Asking as I have a brand new factory BMW PCV plate already attached to a velocity stack intake w/M62 wedge-less TB.

    And yes, I am lacking that motor mount bracket in the upper right of your pic. As well as the idler pulley on the main mounting plate. And I also have no charge tube. No dipstick tube either.

    It shouldn't be too hard to modify your existing dipstick tube to accept the return line... I would be concerned about not having the motor mount piece, though... that's not going to be easy fabrication.

    I honestly don't even know what's different about the two PCV's... never really paid that much attention to it.

    When installing the kit, I called out to several members that had ESS kits and I got 7 ESS manuals emailed back to me. All of them were E39 manuals. The instructions seemed somewhat vague to me, but between my regular shop mechanic and myself, we were able to figure it out. We got the car running pretty good right out of the box, but it had a few flat spots and it needed a proper tune....

    Once I brought the car Chris to be tuned, he changed everything! It wasn't that we did anything wrong, he simply knew the tricks to improve the overall performance. He went back to the stock MAF and the 484 ecu (with AEM FIC) without a resistor. He also modified the idler pulley (a few times) BOV and vent lines.

    The difference in the PVC plate is the added port for a return line that connects to the intake side of the blower.
    (BTW, Chris didn't use that either!)

    I am planning to go over to the shop today to see if Chris has any of the missing parts. I will also ask him if there is any way he can fab up an engine mount for you.

    Did you decide on doing the billet impellar upgrade?

    Really want to get into the FI game..

    Wondering about an M62 VF V2 kit on an M60? I know I'd need to get a tune, but what about the physical mounting? Is the mounting bracket compatible? I hear I'll have to make some room for the blower by denting the passenger fender..
