Yes, cars used to not have swaybars, but they also handled like boats. Lol
I don't yet have my front swaybar on and when I change lanes too fast it's pretty washy, and I have 8k front springs on my coilovers. I'd say they are pretty important for a safe and enjoyable car. I also tried to fit a front mount sway, and found the NASCAR setup much more simple. Just my opinion tho

Yeah, I have access to 6 different "nascar" sway bars from a friend. He did give me some hardware but ill have to make or buy the arms myself. I also got some stock sway bars from a few cars at another friend's "junkyard". I'm going to try some of those first in the hopes of having less work and cost.

Freak, what size swaybar are you going to run? are you going to run close to stock? Hollow or solid? Also 8k springs seem low for such a heavy car(e39's). Do you plan on keeping that rate?

Btw, I used to pit for an ITE 300zx that ran no sway bars at all, just high spring rates and little chains to keep the suspension from drooping. It handled great, but I'm not gonna put chains on my BMW lol.

I'm going to run a 1.25" solid bar. The "recommended" spring rate from BC racing for front spring rates is 6k, I much prefer the 8k. Anything stiffer wouldn't be enjoyable IMO.

1.25" bar is stout. What are the stock sizes? What's your rear bar like? My point is that if your rear bar isn't the right size, too large or too small, it can make for some very nasty surprises at just the wrong times.

Stock is like 27mm. I'm getting a dinan adjustable bar for the rear which is 17mm (2mm thicker than the M5 bar I have now) and if it's not enough I'll do a rear NASCAR bar as well.

I had a 35/22 tubular setup on a similar size/weight car that worked beautifully. That seemed a good ratio of front:rear size and there was zero comfort penalty. I love that about sway bars...plus it's instant gratification!

Making changes to the front and rear sway bars changes the handling dynamics of the car. Making the rear sway bar stiffer, or front less stiff can make the car tend to oversteer when near the car's cornering limits; especially in the rain or snow.

Manufacturers tend to setup spring rates and sway bar stiffness to make cars tend to understeer since that is typically easiest for most drivers to understand and correct.

Couldn't have said it better. But I HATE plowing throw a corner, I much prefer steering with my foot.

    please email me at skweaky1t4z@gmail.com

I have a bad trans and a rough running m52. I have a 4.8 ls and 4l60e sitting in the shop that i think would be cheaper than fixing the stock setup.
