I was fantasizing about an E30 and scrolling on Craigslist over the weekend and stumbled on this Bronzit 1988 325 Sedan listed for $1,500. It was listed as the wrong year and model, and there was barely any info, so I went to see it out of curiosity. Bare in mind, the only car I've ever owned is a 2007 Pontiac G6 that I bought off of a friend for a steal.
It has plenty of cosmetic flaws, and non-functioning features, but it runs. So I took it for a test drive (having never driven one before). And the next thing I know, I had agreed to buy it! I'm not a very spontaneous person, especially with something like a car, but I just fell in love with it.
It has 63K on the odometer, but it's busted. It had 62K on it in 2011 when it had some minor work was done on it. Judging by the pedals and the general lack of use, I would guess that it couldn't have more than 70–80k miles on it, max. Also, no rust in all of the places that I've read are typical, only on a dent on the back right quarter panel.
I'm dropping it off with a mechanic to do a bit of a 'post purchase' inspection to see what I'm up against mechanically. But it feels great to drive, so I'm hoping it's something that could become my daily driver.
General flaws:
• The top coat is peeling, I get the feeling it was kept outside for a decent chunk of it's life
• Driver's side window is unresponsive (I was able to get the switch to light up!)
• Both rearview mirror motors are unresponsive, and the right mirror is missing
• Stearing wheal is installed at about a 45º
• Glove box stuck shut
• Driver's side door lock turns, but latch is stuck open
• All of the decals are in pretty rough shape
• A few cracks in the dash
• Dent in back right of the trunk, right back quarter panel, and a groove running from the front window to the back
• Does vinyl interior count as a flaw?
• Locked radio, broken clock
• Broken AC
If anyone has any related threads that come to mind, I would love it if you shared!
Still in shock that I accidentally bought a car, not to mention an E30! Hope I can afford to keep it...
