Trying to find original chrome 840Ci exhaust tips

    Hello,

I was able to find 4 units of part number 82129401296 in order to restore my cars mufflers to a stock look. Unfortunately, one of the 4 is damaged and BMW has notified me that this part is NLA. Does anyone have a spare lying around to sell me? These are the chrome tips that came stock on the later 840ci and 840ci Sports in Euro. Chrome oval tip.

Alternatively, does anyone know if similar tips would work (E39 M5 and so forth)?

Looking for any and all help here.

    Regards,

    Michael

No other BMW tips will work. You will have to find an 840Ci donor.

    Thanks Olin.

I should mention that these tips will be welded to the magnaflow exhaust after the old tips are cut off. Not sure if that changes your analysis.

In that case, there are tons of exhaust tips on the market that will give you a "stock look" even if they are not the exact BMW ones. Is this an option?

Yes, I don't care about the BMW part stamp.

I just want something that doesn't look like an elephant gun and is polished/chrome.

Not sure what I'm working with but I can take some photos of the tips on the magnaflows for reference.

Also not trying to break the bank but anything sub $125 or so should work.

    Thanks boys.

Thanks Olin. I think the Magnaflow's tips are hideous. The exhaust itself sounds cheap as well but I know I am alone on this one plus it is a v8.

Reviving an old thread, anyone have or know the location of new exhaust tips for 840CI?

    I have just acquired a super clean Silver/Gray, 92k, 1 owner, California only, 1997 E31 840CI. It's amazing. I'll post pictures soon.

    Thanks!

Congrats on the new E31! I just got a 75k mile car myself that I'd like to put the Euro 840ci Sport chrome tips on too. I'd like to try and replicate a Euro sport model if possible.

Yipes.... $125 per chrome plated tube. But if that's the only set, he's naturally gonna price 'em through the roof!

And I thought the $80 it cost me for a set a few years back was excessive.

Great find! That would be $ 700.00 to me plus shipping from the UK. I don’t know if keeping the car that original will be worth it,but I’m considering it!

Thanks for for responding and posting that link, I’ll be sure to expand my searches for parts to other countries when using eBay in the future.

I purchased 4 of these. Stainless, not chrome, but pretty nice polish, and they fit well, look good. Price is great as well, compared to anything else I found that was ~correct ID.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Exhaust-Tai...item1c41b37d48

They needed slight modification, as the staked inner pipe needed to be removed (came out very easily) then the toothed clamps thrown away as I recall. Held firmly to the OE exhaust pipe by two small bolts. Really hard to find 65mm ID tips!

Those do look pretty good! Since I found some genuine tips I won't need these, but since they seem to be extremely scarce, that might really help the next person to look for them and read this thread! Great find!

What did you do Danny! You paid the $200/tip shipped to USA??? That's nuts! But I commend your dedication to OEM!

I did suffer making the decision, but I found other stainless tips for as much as $80 to $110 for nice rolled slant tips, at that point... screw it. lol. I did luck out, I bought this car very reasonably and it needs much less than I could have hoped, so maybe I'm blowing the budget for tips, but I'll have a really good story to tell about them!

Just received my 4 tips from China... Well I guess I should have measured my muffler tips before blindly ordering from Gary's link above. The tips I received are 3mm (1/8") too small for my '95 mufflers. My muffler tips are about 65.4mm OD, and the chrome tips are about 62.7mm ID.... Ain't going to work. Oh well $24 down the tubes (pun intended).

    Chamberlin,

Look at these tips. You will see there is an 'inner tube' that is staked to the outer shell of the tip. Remove that inner tube, and the inner diameter of the 'outer' tips will be about 2 mm larger than the exhaust pipe was on my '97 840Ci. I also removed the 'U' shaped clamps and just used the two screws to clamp that outer tip to my exhaust pipe.

My inner tubes were only lightly staked and were easily removed. As I recall, I just 'knocked it out' with a chisel and hammer.

Let me know if you have any further problems. However, I can only attest to them fitting well over the OE exhausts on my 840Ci !!

Thanks for the reply Gary - It seems however that they have changed the design or I simply didn't receive the same model as you did off that eBay ad. Take a look:
