I have another thread where im trying to figure out why the car is hesitating and im not getting much help. I think it has something to do w/ the car wont rev in neutral or drive w/ my foot touching the brake. I kno usually they do as Ive checked for misses by holding the brake and hitting the gas. any ideas?

Did you try cleaning MAF sensor, unplugging it, or swapping it with a known good one?Originally Posted by BMW TUNING
Need codes. You have to have codes.
You were getting help in your other thread.

Do you have an auto?
Don't most auto cars not allow you to rev past x RPM in neutral and or with your foot on the brake at a stop.
May be completely wrong as I've never had an auto, Dane you've had an auto before is this true?

this is true , far as the newer auto's but I've never tried to red line in neutral on the E46...almost did today when Igot stuck in some mudOriginally Posted by 1988 325ix
I have both cleaned and unplugged the maf, no change. Im not trying to power brake! lol I just noticed this symptom and hoped it might point to the problem Im trying to figure out. I dont mean wont redline but with my foot touching the brake pedal, the car does nothing when u hit the gas, not even a little rise in rpms.... nothing at all. Thanx for your help guys.

Probably for safety. If your foot is on the brake while in drive you shouldnt be hitting the gas.
The car should be able to rev in neutral or park

I read a thread about this a while ago. Check on bimmerfest or e46fanatics. I want to say that the problem ended up being the MAF. It's been a while but I am almost positive that's what the cause was. See if you can find someone local to you and swap MAF's just to test it out.
I’m currently poking around for a solution to this very problem... but I have a 6spd manual. Can’t rev the car if my foot is on the brake at all and this behavior is new. I just noticed the other day when on a cold morning I was blipping throttle a bit while at a stop.
Turn the DSC off and see if you can do it.
OP, you need to be able to see” what the MAF is sending the DME. Get the OBDFusion app for your smartphone or tablet. Then go to E46Fanatics and search for threads on OBDFusion in which jfoj has commented. He’s the guru. The app will let you see the MAF readings.
