Are all years of the e36 foglight lenses overly prone to cracking (due to heat, it seems)? Or do the newer OEM foglight kits have more robust lenses? I've been anguishing over adding the foglight kit, but from all the broken lense postings I keep seeing on here, I'm wondering if it's worth it. Is anyone using protective lense film on their lights?

go for it... altho it IS prone to cracking, i'd go nuts without foglights.

The front end does look kind of empty/plain with just the body-colored inserts where the fogs oughta be.
Yeah I have the protective film and it does work, this protects from flying rocks since they are so close to the ground which I feel is the main cause of cracking not heat. The film supposedly yellows over time, but down so low noboby will notice if they do yellow in 2/3 years(have not yet) also at that point I will plan on removing them to workbench and using some solvent or wd40 to remove film since they remove so easy.

I am thinking about doing a transplant into my fogs but i will keep everyone posted if i do.
