Euro cars have an automatic tensioner that increases wiper pressure with speed, light level, and raindrop density. At 250 mph in a midnight hurricane they're plowing troughs in the glass.....

Well, I have some mirror-image options. Got a couple from UK RHD cars, bolt right up except the air deflector is upside down. You might be able to salvage the tensioner parts you need from one, tho.

    It's not that advanced .

The wiper pressure is controlled only by vehicle speed and the windshield washers. The latter is actually a nice touch. When using the windshield washers, the wiper pressure is increased to help getting rid of dirt on the windscreen.

I did this a year or two back. A few people have done aero conversions, this was my method. They sit nice and low and are almost invisible.

The modern flat type blades. Pic.3 shows them. There are lots of retrofit blades advertised for the 8er, but none of them fit. The hook on the 8er is the other way up to all other hook fitting blades.
I know this was not your remit, but just a thought.

Nice technique and result, thanks for posting. I believe you can also retrofit wiper arms from an e36 or such, which has a conventional hook (but maybe not the tensioning adjustment). FWIW, I haven't had any luck with 3 different brands of "aero" blades on my pickup. I've given up on that technology, gone back to regular blades.

Cheers, I went through a dozen sets before I went DIY.

I have heard of e36 arms being fitted, but believe they are a different shape and some bending is required. Also the pressure device as you say.
I don't want to hijack this, but I did a write up on the UK site (not many pics. unfortunately), but there is more to it than just the looks, which would be reason enough for me.
    I run 20" and 22" blades incidentally.

    not enough
    Thread resurrection!

So the difference is just the wiper arms themselves? Or is there any other part involved? 850 is in need of wiper blades....good time to upgrade if necessary

I have a photo I can dig up from when I did this. You literallly just cut the arm right below where the hook ends and weld it back/grind if needed. I got a buddy to do it for me.

Just seen that photobucket has stopped hosting third party images, thought that was the whole point. They only want to charge me $399 to reinstate the facility, yeh right.

The link below has pics held on the .co.uk site, unfortunately unlike this site you are required to log in to see posts.
