3 wires to the Throttle Position Sensor

Hi I need help to connect the 3 wires to the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS).
I have accidental ripped out the cables from the connector so now I don’t know which one goes to which.

    It is 3 cables
    -Brown
    -Brown/Black
    -Grey/White

The connector that was housing the cables

Or is there a way to figure out which goes to which whitout the color.

    Thumbs up which engine?

I suppose you have this engine here:

The M43 engine may or may not have the same wiring as the common M50's. But I will search through the 1995 M50 ETM for the wire color.

    Gimme a few...

    Ok here it is:

THrottle position sensor wire colors/numbers stamped on connector:

    • #1=br or brown wire
    • #2=br/sw or brown/black in english
    • #3=rt/ge or red/yellow in english

Good luck and welcome to the forums!

It is likely that your Grey/White wire is +5v on that car. The other colors might correlate. It'd be best to find a 518i ETM.

    CORRECTEMUNDO!

    I found the 518 ETM:
doesn't get much bigger than this

    SO
    the M50 red/yellow #3 wire is the same as the M40 gray/white #3 wire.

    BUT WAIT THERES MORE:
it looks like the #1 and #2 wires are different.
    #1=brown/black
    #2=Brown ONLY
    #3=GRAY/WHITE

I sure hope the OP didn't fry anything using the M50 colors.

Ye I tested the first configuration before I saw the new post.
I noticed that the Idle speed is not stable, it pending from 500 to 1000.
    I tested
    1) Brown
    2) Brown/Black
    3) Grey/white
    From the
    I see the
    1) Brown/Black
    2) Brown
    3) Grey/white

I see the in the new post that

    1) Brown/Black
    2) Brown
    3) Grey/white
    Is it correct?

Ok gonna test it now to see if it runs better now.
    Thanks

Most likely. Do you have a multimeter/ohm meter? Measure resistance to ground on the brown wire. Measure the resistance to ground on the Brown/Black wire. Measure the voltage on each wire too. Should be 5v on Grey/White, 5v on Brown/Black, and 0v on Brown. That is assuming the throttle position sensors has an internal pull up to 5v... but I don't want to get too technical.

Ideally you should get an ETM for that car.

Strange it don't work for the

    1) Brown/Black
    2) Brown
    3) Grey/white

But do work for and I have test with multimeter
    and got the value.

    1) Brown 5V
    2) Brown/Black 0V
    3) Grey/white 5V

Any way it runs okey for now. Maybe the connection on the other end
of the cable is wrongly connected.

Any way tanks for the help every one .

Javadeveloper - from the diagram above:

Grey white is 5v reference from ECU
Brown is the voltage OUT of the sensor into the ECU (and will read 5v bare)
and Black/Brown is the shared ground between the TPS and coolant sensor. Sounds like you've got it right with your second scenario.

In this case you can't really mess anything up for the most part, even if you wired it wrong.
