Great build!
Shifter console gets delrin bushings up front...
test fit after boring with a 14mm drill bit and then stacking 3 needle bearings..
new grommet off e36 had to poke new hole for reverse lights
Can you see the needle bearings in there?
Need to make room for something special
It's a PEX line that will act as the transmission breather tube that we want to run to the back of the car for venting.
make another hole and grommet
over the gas tank...
and need 2 holes, 2 grommets, and a differential breather tube as well.
probably run filters on them until we get catch cans.
Oil pan is dropped in the mean time, still waiting on the original subframe to make it back from powder coat.
but first... set screws before we forget
The fuel tank rollover valve is installed using a factory hole, then route through the new grommet.
and out the same drain as sunroof..
Fixing the filler neck clearance issue
Perfect
rear wheel wells painted
Quick bleeders
Oil pan with welded baffle
windage tray
look carefully......
Exhaust is for next weekend
Good work. You won't even need a catch can on those lines, it pukes so little, if you elevate the line, the fluid will just run back in.
BTW - when you install the exhaust system... If the pipe hangs low, hits the rear subframe, has a poor fitment, or just needs to bent, you are doing it CORRECT. Everyone had to fight the exhaust install, it is what it is. Just get it up there. :-)
Pics of bend?

The windage tray turned out nice! I'm curious to see how your oil pan trap door works out so post some pics when you get it fixed.
Reference using PEX for your trans/diff vents, I know that some PVC react poorly to petroleum exposure. I've seen PVC in commercial HVAC systems crack from exposure to the pump oil in less than six months. I'm not sure if PEX will have the same reaction, but it is something to keep your eyes on. If it does crack, I don't guess it matters much...
I have done some greesecar kits. They run veggie oil inside of pex lines while and its surrounded by coolant. I am highly confident the PEX wont be an issue. If I didn't have that experience, I probably wouldn't have used it and would consider it skeptical.

The final component for the shifter is here and jb welded solid
Correct trap door placement.,...
Plugged off the final line from the tank...
Oil pan back in the car, followed by drive shaft....
Front subframe is back from powdercoating and installed...
looking good, time to start mocking up exhaust..
some modification to the flange to gain more ground clearance, then some paint and we are good to go..
Battery is in, and it's time to start the car after replacing all fluids...

Wow, that is a real clean build.
Found the coolant leak behind the head....
I should go play the lottery...
Making more room for a helmet....
Now we're talking
valence mock up
Wow, crazy! What could cause that crack???
To much pressure from trans hanging too low for too long, this is what i assume what made this piece fail. Esp, with wiggling wobbling the motor while doing work on it...
Better that it broke now then later.

Looking good.
Bringing it to Putnam in three weeks?????? :-)
Moved car to Zach's new shop
Remove glass
Install whiteboard then remove dash and heater core/climate control assembly
Zach testing the specs on new bender
Removed sunroof assembly, need to remove cassette...
Pry like this to not warp roof in back
cut 4 of these tabs at the weld and drain hoses. 2 in the front 2 in the rear
lists
Time to remove spot welds (start with 2 long rectangle tabs in between the 2 small ones that you cut. they have 3 spot welds on them, don't punch through roof!) Get one of these bits...
Need to support cassette now that the rear half is hanging.....
Then take a punch and punch were you see all remaining spot welds around the perimeter of sunroof frame, followed by drill.
A chisel and hammer will separate the bond the rest of the way. Nice weight.
Tubing and plates are in. Clean and waiting for a cage.....
Seats, brackets, wheels, tires, restraints, steering wheel, quick release all in. Waiting for solid adapter and possibly spacer for steering wheel as well.
Stay tuned...
nice job on removing the sunroof cassette
Looking good. Keep it up. FYI the extra support you added to the rear trailing arms, i dont think are Spece30 legal if that is your plan.
Thanks,
Dan

Probably chumping it first, but yes it will be cut straight through for spec.

Did our measurements (can be tricky and plumb bob helped out) so we could input the numbers into cage software:
load up some piping
Set up tooling and dial so we can "time" the tubing...
Mark the bend starting points
Attached a clamp with extending rod to rear of piping to measure rotation
UMMMPHHH
drill the holes to drop cage for welding....
Bam, main hoop
not bad for first tube we have ever bent. ever.
Now for some forward hoops
hold them up with jack (eventually blocks)
Nice..
Tall folk cage.
Subbed, even though I can go see it in person, this is much better! Zach is the man!
