    DIS/GT1 screen issue

    Hey guys,

I am new to the BMW diag. software, and I am not a computer programmer so forgive the ignorance or stupid questions.

I have DIS and INPA loaded on my windows 7 laptop. I am using a modified VAG COMM cable and a 20 pin - 16 pin adapter for use under the hood. INPA is working to access the dme, but I think I am having an issue accessing the other modules. (btw I have a 2000 M5, and all of the statements and questions I have are related to using the underhood connection, not the OBDII port)

The module access can be discussed later, maybe in it's only thread.

The important thing right now is that I am having trouble using DIS/GT1. Everything is communicating properly and I am able to navigate through the screens without an issue until I get to the picture attached. (automatic ID, short test, etc. all work fine)

Starting with this screen (pic #1) I can't "see" the down arrow to scroll the page. In future screens I can't continue with the test without scrolling down so I get stuck. (pic #2)

Has anyone had this issue before? Do I need to explain further?

Also, when "properly" shutting down the system I had to guess where the button was to reach the password screen. It is between self test and langauge under DIS. What is wrong with my setup that I can't "see" what I need to?

I have shut down/restarted the system 3 times with no change.

    All help is appreciated.

When you first get to the DIS home screen, left click on the screen with your mouse, then hit ALT+CTRL+ENTER. The screen should then refresh and you will see the whole thing.

Ok, So I was pretty sure I tried that already but I wanted to recheck. So I booted up the system, clicked into the VM on the main startup screen and performed ctrl alt enter. All that did was bring me to full screen mode, which is what I was in before, I judt got there a different way. (maximize the window and press full screen view on the VMware) Still can't see the down arrow and the field for "shut down" is still not visable...

I think you need to edit this in the SCOadmin.

Check if the resolution is 256 colours and 1024X768.

Forgive my stupidity, but what is the SCOadmin? The laptop res is set to 1024x600 and it only appears to have one other setting which is much lower. Not sure where I would access any res settings in vm?

Since Im up and mostly running, creating an extra os (xp) is the last ditch effort

DIS runs on a (SCO) UNIX operating system.

    - Startup DIS
    - Press ctrl+alt+F1 or ctrl+printscreen
    - enter login (root)
    - enter password (12345)
    - type: scoadmin

Now you are in the scoadmin menu,

    - Go to Video Configuration Manager and check if it's the same as the screenshot.

Ok I got into the system. Next hurdle is the fact that I don't have an option for that resolution. Only 800x600 256 color or 64k color. There was also a lower grade res. 640x480 256 and 64k. I can.post the screen shots when I get to a real computer/internet access. I tried going under "add a res" but the same 4 were listed... any more ideas? This seems to be the root of my problem. No pun intended!

DIS really needs to run at 1024x768 or it will show you the wrong size, like your screenshots. If your laptop does not support at least the res 1024x768 or higher, then you can't run DIS at the full window size.
I have change it to 1920x1080 256 colours and it runs at full screen. Very nice view, much better then 1024x768 !!!

I have a micro pc with 1280*720 resolution. I found this thread to change the DIS resolution. Luckily 1280*720 is available in the video config manager and it now runs just fine fullscreen mode.

I see the config manager even has 800*600 available and upto 1900*1200. So should be no problem having DIS working correctly in fullscreen mode on just about any computer/tablet.
