    2006 X5 Acceleration noises

I've had this SUV for a few years and want to know what causes a whistling sound (air compression noise) when i accelerate at lower speeds (45mph and lower). I only hear this when the window is down - so maybe the noise is there at higher speeds, not sure, but windows are up if I'm on the highway. Any Ideas?

Also, any recommended independent BMW mechanics in the Mountain View/Palo Alto area?
