Warning, picture intensive.
So, new to the local scene here. '99 323i E46
However, figured id share some of the photos of my motor swap i did 2011 summer. From June to August (Due to finances)
Was on the highway doing some sprinted driving, my intention was go from 3rd gear to 4th, however i quick shifted into 2nd, spun the tires going 80mph, but caught it real quick. Made my heart drop, BUT, my baby drove fine for about 2 months, then randomly just died while driving one late night, and had it towed home.
Well i approached it by replacing the fuel pump, and fuel filter, and followed up with a new starter.
And after those replacements, realized my engine was seized ($%#$T)
After tearing the head off discovering i dropped a valve(as the valve spring retainer broke in half, causing the valve to get bitch to hell in the cylinder, and blew a hole into the piston, then the piston cracked the cylinder sleeve and into the block, i then just removed the whole block without removing the front core support (Dumb i found out, and when swapping the new motor in i took the front end completely off)
In addition to swapping the motor,
I upgraded the water pump, thermo(and housing), pulleys, belts, plugs, coil packs, replaced the busing/washers in the shifter linkage, new stage 2 clutch, slave cylinder, and a few other nick nacks.
Anyways, here are a few of the pictures from the whole process.
Pictures from the old stock motor, as well as the new one that currently resides in my baby
Enjoy, and learn from my lesson ha
Keep in mind, this is done in my driveway, and about 2 feet off the ground
As well as i did this all solo, which was a pain in the a**
(The Intact motor in the pictures is my new one)

I must say I was a little disappointed by your definition of money shift
I define money shift as 4th to 1st at Hallett (twice now at turn 1 and turn 4). But luckily no errant metal pieces in the engine (yet...).
Props for doing an engine swap alone, in the driveway, in this summer's heat.
Wow, I am impressed at the solo motor swap.
Yeah it was a painstaking task
so 2.5 to 2.5?
Surely not! Why would you spend all of that and not come out of it with ATLEAST an S54? J/K, props to all the hard work in a driveway! Neighboors must love it...
3.0 swap, sorry have been busy lately and have not checked back.
Reused my old cable throttle on the throttle body.
