My E70 uses the angel eys as DRL's and you can just set them on with the iDrive (a codeable option). I would have thought that you could do the same thing with your E83 but if not, have a look at the codeable options for your car with NCS Dummy - the E70 sets this option in the FRM.

Am I using the wrong interface?

Be warned, there are 3 different versions and 3 different interfaces for PA Soft - 1 for cars up to 2001, the next for cars up to 2006 and the final (v2.2.0) for DCAN cars. The software also becomes increasingly less functional after v1.4.0. I would strongly suggest that anyone considering using PA Soft shops around for a "3 in 1 interface" which is a lot cheaper than buying one for each version (as I found out after the fact).
OK, hopefully you can help me out because after reading pages of this stuff I'm no closer to solving this then when I started.

I have a 2009 X3 (E83), PA Soft v1.4.0 is "supposed" to work with my chassis and I do get some of the modules to come up.

I cannot get to DME (which is what I REALLY need).

I have soldered pins 7&8 as well as 1&2, checked for functionality after doing 7&8 before doing 1&2. Neither advanced my capability beyond what i already had.

I'm using laptop with Win Vista 32 bit (no kidding).

Am I pissing up a rope with what I'm currently using, or what am I missing?

    Thanks in advance.

I have all 3 versions of PA SOFT, each of which use different interfaces. V1.4.0 is recommended for cars up to 2001, v2.0.1 is recommended for cars up to E60 and v2.0.2 is recommended for DCAN cars (including your 2009 model). Soldering pins 7 & 8 will not improve connectivity on DCAN cars as, unlike pre-2007 KCAN cars, one pin only is connected to the K data line whilst the other is an ethernet connection. On KCAN cars, both pins 7 & 8 connect to K data lines. After using v2.0.2 on my 2008 E70, I can tell you that the later version of PA SOFT is nowhere near as useful as v1.4.0 but at least it connects.

    V2.0.2?

Where did you acquire v2.0.2? I cannot find in a simple google search.

    Thanks

I am running Windows 7 32 bit and INPA and NCS Expert are working flawlessly (I can access and code all ECU's). I wanted to use BMWScanner to edit the mileage and VIN in my new LCM which I can't do with INPA or NCS Expert.

The BMWScanner software is stating that the device driver is installed correctly and that the adapter/interface is plugged in.

Do you know how I could make this interface work?

Pin 4+5 and 7+8 of my board are bridged already and are connected to the respective Pins in the OBD connector. The other Pins 4, 14, 15, 16 are also attached to their respective PINS in the OBD connector.

I am wondering why you are speaking of bridging pin 1+2? These pins are not used in my obd connector at all?

I also use an OBD to 20 Pin adapter as I have an early E39.

I had the BMWScanner demo version installed previously and it worked without problems with my INPA interface.

The user delmarco (Post 59 on Page 3) has the same interface and it seems to work. Although he is referring to PIN 1+2 already bridged also on his board PIN 4+5 and 7+8 are already bridged and not 1+2.
Hello I have the same problem how you solved

I got the 1.4.0 scanner tool and the connector for my 1995 E36 but It cannot see the dme or EGS. It does read some other codes but I need to read the DME and EGS, any ideas?
