Can anybody with experience form both Inpa and DIS give some info about the similarities and differences in how this different software are working.
Can Inpa do the same as DIS, and opposite.
After some months use I have relative good experience with Inpa, but nothing at all with DIS. I understand that DIS need to be run under viritual machine, and because of lack of experience with VMware I have not bother with this yet, but maybe I have to if DIS is showing up to be a better alternative.
INPA is much quicker but occasionally will not contain .IPO files to diagnose modules on some models. The biggest advantage of DIS is that it contains an integrated repair guide and suits most models.
Basically what he said. Both are useful programs - INPA will have the information you need most of the time and is much quicker. Occasionally some IPO files are german only even if you set the program to English. And sometimes INPA is missing readouts of various sensors (it doesn't report the S54's EGT reading even though DIS can). INPA also cannot check OBD readiness in the case of my car
Dis is slower, but can give more detailed information. It's helpful for troubleshooting obscure issues. And everything being in English is helpful since sometimes the German used doesn't translate properly.
Oh and DIS's ABS bleeding routine is extremely helpful; really helped me out when I got air in my ABS unit. Not present in INPA (the bleeding functions it had aren't the same; they don't work as well).
Thanks for valuable answers, I have been looking in Inpa for possibilities to delete adaptions for DDE, but I am not able to find this. I understand that this can be done with DIS. Maybe I have to use Tool32 to perform this when using the BMW standard tools.
Very old refloat...but I have INPA and while is useful for reading and deleting error codes, I donīt understand live data "analog values". I havenīt found any chart that tells the "right" value range for "engine load", "air use of the idle control valve", etc...
Would it be DIS more useful/user friendlier than INPA? Iīve never seen DIS.
There is no "right" value, it's very dependent on temperature and many other variables. DIS wouldn't offer much more assistance on ranges.

OK, so I wonīt bother trying to install DIS...anyway, my patience with my car is almost gone.
Thanks..
Tell us what is going on with the car, we can help. E36 328 is surprisingly easy to diagnose and fix.

Here is a screenshot of analogue values from my 1998 E36 328i taken from Carsoft which will give you an idea of typical values.Carsoft BMW 328i Live Data.pdf
I bought my 328i two years and a half ago and the engine never seemed smooth to me. Itīs not a question of stalling, lack of power, poor milleage, etc. My car goes well enough and fuel consumption is rather good. But, to me, the engine feels almost harsh. Well, to me and to a friend of mine that is a former 328i E36 owner. I havenīt driven another 328i E36 to compare, but experiences with a pair of 525i E34 M50 Vanos have showed me they are a lot smoother and nicer than my 328i, almost turbine like. My car seems "growling" and there is a certain resonance and roughness around 3000-3500 rpm.
I had to replaced my car original engine last year because horrendous oil consumption. The mechanic replaced the clutch (only clutch, not the DMF) too. And the "new" (110,000 miles) engine feels exactly the same than the old one (at least the new one doesnīt drink any oil). Today a mechanic has told me than I should have replaced the DMF, too, and that could be a reason. But before spending 900 euros throwing parts at the car I would like to investigate a bit.
INPA doesnīt show any error code and my car passed emission tests without problems.

Thanks. These are some screenshots of INPA analogue values from my car, it suprises me the difference in "camshaft position degrees" (I replaced the cam position sensor some months ago). Oxygen sensors voltage values vary constantly.

Oxygen sensor voltages should vary constantly - my screenshot only captured momentary data (the oxygen sensor voltages varied constantly as described, as they must to properly adjust fuel trim values). Your attachments can't be opened.
I'm looking for a way to reset the airbag light in my E31 produced 1991-11.
I have a working WinXP with Ediabas 6.4.3 (INPA 4.4.7) where I can connect with INPA (via the TinyADS cable) to most modules on my E31. However, not the airbag and I need to reset the light. I get "ifh-0009: no response from control unit". My airbag control unit is a SIEMENS 5WK4 060 and I'm not sure that my INPA scripts works with this unit (earlier E31 models used the Simens 5WK4 027 unit).
If I install DIS v44 on top of this, is it then possible that I can connect to the airbag ECU or will the reachable ECUs still be limited to what I can connect to with INPA?
Other hints for SW that could help me? Could there be INPA scripts out there that works for my SIEMENS 5WK4 060 or are the different control units (5WK4 027, etc) using exactly the same communication protocol?
Thanks

you need DIS for BMW before 1996 is said here, https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...-Red-Label-DME
Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
Thank you Shogun. Yes, the alias victorgallas in that thread has exactly the same problem as me. INPA/EDIABAS connects to most modules but not the SIEMENS 5WK4 060 airbag module. I just wonder how it is possible for DIS to connect to the ECU if it uses INPA/EDIABAS for the communication. I actually don't understand how DIS and INPA/EDIABAS relate to eachother.
Success! :-) I can now verify that Easydis v44 is able to connect to my airbag ECU even though INPA/EDIABAS on the very same laptop can not.
