    E46 steering wheel/seats compatibility

Does the sport steering wheel fit on a non sport? Also, do the coupe front seats fit on a sedan? Thanks

It'd help if we knew what year your car is.

All E46 steering wheels are compatible. The question is the airbag, and that depends on what year model you have.

Coupe front seats can be fitted into a sedan but you will need to swap the rails. http://www.e46fanatics.com/forum/sho...11&postcount=6

All the steering wheels are interchangeable from the e46 series using the proper airbag (square for non-sport steering wheel, round for sport, ZHP, M3, traingle for the older sport).
The only compatibility issue is that the older cars have a single stage system and the newer cars have a dual stage system. I cannot remember the exact date this change happened, but from my understanding anything 9/1999 and newer can be coded for the dual stage driver's aitbag only. Most people just swap in an M3 steering wheel and round airbag, only way to test if it works properly is to crash.

Seats are all interhangeable. Other than the rail and rear access seats were all the same (coupe, sedan, or touring), either sport or comfort, the only exception being the M3 seats and of course the materials used (leather, leatherette, cloth, alcantera, a combination of all the former). Some have even added power seats or heated elements to their cars. For ease of swapping it is generally best to find seats that have the same options as your OEM seats (for example my seats are power with 3 position memory and heated, if I was switching to M3 seats I would want a power operated with heat M3 seat). This way all the plugs plug right in and everything works.

There may be some exceptions somewhere, but you will need to do some searching to find out for sure.

Changing the steering wheel has been something I been wanting to do but always afraid to since I dont want to buy the wrong parts or have them not work once I try to put them together. As far as I know like stated before ALL e46 steering wheels could be used to be swapped right? Even Ms? How about airbags as long as is a round one is going to work/fit? How about the coding? What has to be done with that?

I say get a M3 wheel but if you want I could sell you my old sport steering wheel. Its just a wheel no air bag.

I only removed it because I recently retrofitted an SMG M3 wheel to my car. SMG steering wheels means it has paddle shifters since that's what wheel came standard on E46's with that transmission option. If yours is a manual just look for a regular M3 wheel.

I was wondering, if my 2000 BMW 323i that currently doesn't have the multifunction buttons is pre wired for them or something so I can just buy the multifunction buttons or what?

Depends on the steering wheel you currently have.

So on the seats I have everything but heated... what would I need to get to have that feature added...?

Just FYI, to retrofit dual stage airbags into a car without them requires either a new module or recoding depending on build date (before september 1999 requires a new module; between September 1999 and April 2000 requires recoding of the existing module. After that, they all came with dual stage airbags from the factory)

I have an 04 325i with the square airbag. I plan to replace the steering wheel with something sportier. I am not concerned about the airbag but I would not like the airbag light to be on. I might be interested in having the steering wheel controls working. I was looking at the steering wheel that has a triangle airbag with steering controls. Will this steering wheel work on my car?

Can you post up a link of the wheel? Yes you can turn the airbag off IIRC with the proper tools like NCS Expert.

That should work, and as long as the battery is off when you swap the wheels, not trip the airbag light.

However in the parts book it only goes up to MY-00 so I would wonder if it has the same number of splines?

Scratch that, for the E-46's all use the same steering Collum it seems.
