2000 BMW 323i lighting issues

Just recently I have been having issues where my headlights (and fog lights) will flicker between high beam and low beam and the fog lights will go off and on. This happens mainly at night when the headlight switch is in the on position but it has also been happening during the day with the headlight switch off and the brights will flicker on and off.

Has anyone else had these same issues? I am thinking that either the headlight switch is bad, or the high-beam/low-beam/turn signal lever on the steering wheel is bad. Any thoughts/suggestions/insight would be much appreciated.

did you alter the lights, like putting on h.i.ds? im actually switching mine tomorrow but ive heard that you would be more prone to flickering and malfunctions if I did this

I replaced the stock bulbs with Sylvania Silver Star bulbs.

I replaced the stock bulbs with Sylvania Silver Star bulbs.

I put my stock bulbs back in and this seemed to resolve the problem. I find it hard to believe that just changing out the bulbs would cause this but I just ran the car for about 45 minutes with no problems/flickering so hopefully I'm good to go.
