I just called York Automotive in Mt. Airy to see about installing coilovers and they told me that they don't do any high performance modifications anymore. Also, customers can't supply their own parts and that they are now only doing "normal" maintenence work. I've been down there before and seen Ed York's race cars in the shop, but apparently he sold them and the woman told me that it was something he did on the side unrelated to the shop. What a bummer, I have heard only good things about that shop.

Dennis Burke is the owner of this shop, a great honest guy with a real attention to detail. I was referred to him by a client when I owned my E36 325i and now I use him with my newly purchased E34 525i.
When I first bought the car I had him do the initial inspection 2 and whatever other touchups he saw fit. He went ahead and painted the wheel caps, replaced the plastic covers on the reflctors, glued up the headliner and about 10 or 15 other things that I didnt ask him to do. The total to me was like $100 but it was 100% worth it to have someone checking the things that I might have missed with the car.

Owner Neil. Super honest guy.. I strongly recommend him
I highly recommend Fairfax Service Center, owner Reese Sherbaf. I've been going to him for two years now, both with my E39 528i and my E36 M3. I've never had cause to complain in any way; Reese does exactly what I want, whether regular service or performance mods, at a modest price. He does very high quality work. He's also an authorized Dinan installer.

Google "fairfax service center" for their website, since for some reason I'm not allowed to post URL's.
How much do they charge per hour? Also, their website lists very little service options, but I assume they can take care of the whole car?Originally Posted by M3UOND

On an additional note, I've been going to London Auto Service for a few times now. Friendly guys, the bills aren't bad, and the car feels better every time I drive away from it.

Don't know exactly what the per-hour rate is; it's $357 labour for an Inspection II service, so if you know how many hours go into inspection II, just divide...Originally Posted by Smolder
Anyone in the Springfield/Franconia area:
I just found a mechanic working at the Franconia Shell (Accross from the 7-11, DMV, next to the CVS) who use to be a BMW mechanic in India.
They just bought a new 40k computer that can read AND reprogram for you as well. Very trust worthy and customer oriented.

Do you guys know of a good shop for my bmw around the Baltimore city area? I prefer a shop that's open on Sat. Please don't tell me Blueridge!!! I don't really know how Don the owner is but the lady in the front, Victoria, is a huge Pain the Butt! I've left messages with her to give to Don and he has NEVER called me back. I just want to go in and get a brake job!
Please recommend someone else. Thanks.
Got raped by VOB. Avoid them like the plaugue.
Tischer seems to do a good job. There's a mechanic there by the name of Amr, pronounced Ahmer who is phenomenal. He does some side work if your car isn't under warranty. 703-568-9012 tell him Chris sent you and he will definately take care of you. I met him because I put my 328I on craigslist. Got a lot of interest but told people I wasn't selling until I had the inspection II done. Didn't want to sell it with any major issues or have the drama if something happened. He emailed and said I want the car and I'm a Master Tech so I can hook you up. I took the price off the car of what the parts cost like belts, thermostat etc. Few little things. Basically sold my car to someone who will take good care of her and found the best mechanic ever. I've been working on cars for over 10 years and owned 5 bmw's. So I know a good one when I see it. I'm moving to the West Coast in less than a month. Saddest part is I can't take him with me to fix my car!! ha ha

When I lived in Baltimore I had great success with Urban's out on Rte 40. I drive E28s mostly, and they know the older Bimmers very well. Good folks.
I'm looking for someone comparable in Philadelphia; the current fleet is an E28 and an E36 track machine (street-legal and registered though). Any suggestions for someone closer than Bavarian Specialties? Springfield/Upper Darby/Main Line are all easily accessible for me.
As a tag-along question, for you track junkies in the Philly area, who does your R-comp mounting/balancing and alignment work?
Thanks,
-tammer
