Hi guys this is Roberts wife and I can guarantee that if he doesn't have to buy a tool he won't. I have many "wrecked" original tools to prove it. On the other hand he has many customized tools that have actually saved us a fortune.

If I can just add to this. I have the needle type. Spent a full 6 hours trying to get the thing out. Engine out of car plenty of room, the thing would not budge. I broke 2 of the slide hammer type pullers. The inners of the bearing was destroyed. Tried the grease and TP. Not 1mm movement. (Ask me how happy I am about pounding on my crank with a 2lb hammer after I just put me bearings in the engine) I tried cutting it out. Good luck with that...... nearly a scratch. The next morning go with epmedia’s tool. Out like butter in 2 min. I have used this method on suspension bushings for years. But full credit to him for this application. Thank you guys so much. If you’re reading this cos you’re in the same jam with the needle type bearing. use this method! It’s in my option not a way to get it out. It’s the ONLY way. Thanks again epmedia and OP!!!!!

Great to hear, Scottie35. Welcome to the forums.

Old thread! I'm copying gsumzzz's picture (priceless). Saving it here, on the bimmerforums server as a backup copy.

gsumzzz's 'needle type' pilot bearing removal tool for the BMW M10 engine.

Hah! That's a brilliant trick. I had to freeze mine after heating the crank, finally budged after that.
