    E46 m3 mpg?

The E46 M3 is one of my obtainable "dream" cars. I have found a couple good deals, but I'm worried about the MPG. I did a google search on them and found that some people are getting as low as 11 MPG in the city! I do mostly highway driving, but I do drive about 3-4k miles a month and refuse to drive a car that I hate! What kind of MPG do you guys get?

How are they getting that low? I get 27-29 on the interstate. 18 in town.

I get around 22-23 combined with about 60-40 highway-city driving. Highway I'll get in the high 20s. The mileage won't hurt you too much if you're doing mostly highway driving. It won't be anywhere near 11. Check M3Forum.net, there's a thread over there on mileage people have been getting

    Not an issue

I'm getting an average of 22-23 combined mpg. Mostly suburban driving.

Like Alpine said, check out the MPG thread @ M3forums. I have had my 2001 M3 for 1000 miles and get 25.2 calculated by gas receipts and odometer. I live in down in the Keys so one straight road between 35 and 55 posted speed limit on my 38 mile trip to work. I should get better when I am not "forced" to pass people. The M kinda makes me do it sometimes ...

I drive 13 miles one way to work with some highway driving in there. I can get upto 23 with the combined, but one week there was alot of trucks on the road, they can only drive 45 here in Germany, so I got something like 20. The best I ever got on the Freeway is 26 w/ an average speed of 85mph.

I'm averaging 17.7. Everybody here live in flatlands or something? I get about 13-15 in town, and 23-25 on the freeway at best. - But there are a lot of hills here!

Well, don't know about everyone else, but the figs i put in are when I drive it like a basic transportation vehicle. If I stick my fooot in it often I don't even bother to look at the avg mpg.... hills don't help either....

Thank you posters for not saying "if you are worried about mpg..." blanket BMW statement.

Seems like some of the manual transmission guys get good mpg.

Mine is an smg II, I drive mostly highway and little traffic driving at 65-80mph depending on if there are cars in front of me, if no cars then I cruise at 80mph, and I usually have 1-2 passengers (I carpool to work) so that affects mpg a little for the worse. My commute one way is 30 miles with 4 miles of that being streets. I don't floor it to redline usually, I usually drive in sequential mode 5 generally shifting at 3000-3500 rpm with a couple overtake slow car in front of me manuevers on the freeway each day, and I've been getting average 19-20mpg (I just take my miles driven per tank divided by number of gallons filled up at gas station). If you drive in mode 1, it shifts at 2500 rpm, so I'm sure mpg depends on how low of rpms you shift at too. From the brochures, smg II vs. manual mpg is only a difference of 1mpg.

My car before this, 1999 E36 328is would get 22-23mpg average with the same commute, so not much difference. With the M3 I get about 300-330 miles per tank of gas. not that much drastic than my 328. E46 M3 vs. E36 328is, I probably get 30-50 miles less on a tank of gas given my normal commute with mostly highway driving, little traffic, and 1-2 passengers.
