    Question Double Lock Feature?

Does any know how to activate the "double lock" feature or if there is such an option? This supposes to disable the engine, and lock trunk & gas tank door.

I have a BMW alarm, too, but the key fob is different. I only have two buttons on it, and the manual said I had to press the lock key twice to enable the double-lock. I think if you lock the car via the actual door or trunk lock, that double-lock is supposed to engage. Honestly, I can't tell if the car is in single-lock or double-lock mode, I've just gotten in the habit of pressing the lock key twice.

Otherwise, just locking the doors with the key engages double locking. The feature is that once a door has been double locked, you can't open the door from the inside or outside. This means that if someone breaks the window on a double-locked car, he won't be able to reach in and open the door. My viper alarm doesn't double lock, so when I park at night I double lock by hand and then active the alarm with the fob.

Just read the other posts -- the way to test double locking is to roll down the window and lock the door with the key from the outside. Then, try the interior door pull. If it's double locked, the door won't open. On the contrary, if you lock with the console button or pushing in the door pin (or for me, my alarm fob) the door is openable.

what does fob mean? not the Fresh Off Boat fob....
but the fob referred to in these posts...

and do E46 have this "double lock" feature? ive locked my car before with the keyless remote on my key and was still able to open the door from inside with the unlock button in the car.... and i think the manual says that pushing the lock button twice suppose disable the tilt sensor of the alarm.... at least for E46 maybe?

You E46 guys are so confused...

Unlike your key, which has the lock and unlock buttons on it (thus making a monstrously huge key), we have a separate unit that has the buttons on it, which is the key "fob". I gather the alarm features of the E46's are a little different, too, based on your explanations.

ya, us E46 drivers have much bigger...... keys...

so this seperate aparatus is referred to as the key fob? i thought it might stand for something.... but its kinda nice having the keyless entry and key on the same unit.... the key isnt that big and there isnt a need for a seperate unit on key chain....

the 7 (e38) debuted the huge key with integrated keyless controls on it. It's huge. I really like the new way they are doing it...no key...just IR.

The double lock, does it also allow you to lock the car and disable the tilt sensor? The 7 allows that, my non-factory Clifford, i don't know.

Actually your Viper alarm could double lock your doors if it was wired properly. You (or your car audio installer) needs to add a pair of diodes so that the 12v+ lock pulse is sent to both the lock and unlock wires. About $1 in parts from Radio sHack and would take about 30 minutes total to install. Easy easy easy

Question: I have a Clifford Tazer IV. If I lock my doors with my key, the gas compartment closes. If I lock my doors with my key fob (the alarm fob), it does not lock the gas door.

Any easy way to fix this? Do I have to "jumper" two circuits?

Similar to the way that I have my car wired... ...I have mine set up so that when I put in the key and turn it to lock the doors, the car "thinks" I still have the key in for 15 seconds. So I can have my windows down and sunroof open, put the key in the driver door and lock it, walk away, and the windows roll up and the sunroof shuts.

$4.26 in parts from Radio Shack.

So the cheapo eBay key-less remote locks and unlocks the doors and trunk on my 2001 z3 just fine. It will not lock the fuel door. The key in the door or trunk locks the doors, trunk and fuel door just fine. Also if the car is locked with the key in the door the remote will not unlock the car until I press the lock button on the remote and then the unlock button. I'm gonna guess that the key is double locking so everything gets locked and the cheapo remote is only single locking which leaves the fuel door unlocked. Does anyone have a fix so that the remote will lock everything including the fuel door.
    Thank you in advance,
    ...gary...

UPDATE: I think this is the answer...Hope it works. Hope it helps...gary...
