I am ordering the 1995 m3 chip from turner for my stroker kit. Does anyone know which production date I have to go with (pre 12/94 or after 12/94). Great thread thanks for all the info so far.
I am using a 413 red out of a 325 that doesn't have EWS. But isn't the pre 12/94 for the 506 ecu?
Ok so I have almost completed this stroker kit. Got everything together and fired it up, but it wont idle and is running kind of rough. I got the code 1281 which is DME controle module memory supply, anyone have any ideas?

Does anyone have deck height measurements for the M50/S50 engines???
Could I do this with a M50NV block and just use the whole S52 head? Should I use the M54 intake cam? Or should I just use the S52? Which exhaust cam would be better? M54, S52, or M50?
Best bet, IMO, would be to use the S50 cams. M54 intake cam is a cheaper compromise, good bang for the buck, but S50 are better I think.
I can get a whole S52 head for $150.

I think i read somewhere that it was 211mm
All head gaskets fail. Not all head gaskets have truly lived...
I think that should be close. For M50nvOriginally Posted by e36hombre
Crank (37.5) + piston (38.2) + rod (135) = 210.7mm stack up. This sets the top of the piston at .3mm below deck or .0118" ...
Can we get that verified?

I also read somewhere that it was 210mm...thats why Im confused...Originally Posted by e36hombre

I measured my M50B25 NV block and it had a deck height of 211mm
Also:
Connecting rod length 135mm
Piston CH 38.2 mm
Wrist pin 22mm

I'm curious as to what other engine internal combinations are out there..
I believe you can also build an M52B30 using an S52 block and pistons, M52 crank, and an M50/M52 rod. I think this combo is closer to 2.9 than 3.0 liters.
Does an s52 crank fit m50?
s52 crank = m54b30 crank
... so the answer to your question is yes.
Oh so it's the same crank? Just different bore size on the block?
All M5x cranks fit all M5x blocks (except those from the Euro M3 S50 engine). The US s50/S52 engines are essentially M50/M52 engines in this sense. Rods come in 135/140/145mm flavors, and together with pistons having correct compression height you can mix n' match many different combinations that were not offered by BMW, as long as the combination matches up to the block height.
I have been working on this s50 clone idea (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum....php?t=1811221) for several months now (Thank You HakenTT) and had a couple question about the compression of this setup:
At the beginning of this post it is stated (10.3:1 compression ratio).
QUOTE]Get good M54B30 engine and install crankshaft, rods and pistons into your M50/M52 block and you will have 3.0L engine with 10.3:1 compression ratio. Then add s50/s52 camshafts and you will have S50us clone. Use your Red label ecu with early non EWS M3 chip.[/QUOTE]
but on the bimmerfest post it states (10.5:1 ratio). http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=569110
Please can anyone help with a little clarification of compression ratio if the m54b30 pistons sit 2mm below the deck at TDC.Some of you who are probably thinking that I am an idiot and that stroker engine would have crazy high compression because piston head is flat. But compression will be an actual 10.5:1 ratio, same as S50/S52 and you can run cheap 91 octane safely. How can that be? Because in M54b30 piston will sit 2mm below the deck at top dead center.
The reason I would like to know is the block and head are at the machine shop so I can safely up the compression and would like to know what im talking about. Additionally does anyone know what amount i should deck the head to to maintain a safe compression ratio on premium pump gas with stock gasket.
