Ok I have one now....99 wagon. 540it if it matters. Business with DSP. I have tested with a new amp and I have put in a new cassette/head unit. Nothing...now here is the weird part...radio is on, I can scan channels, push buttons, change channels, everything...no sound. Any ideas? It sucks with no radio...

Hey all, i know i am bringing this back up from the depths of death but I had this same issue in my non DSP 528iA and I solved it!
Theres a relay in the trunk called the "unloader" relay which cuts some non critical engine functions such as windows, hvac and audio system during cranking.
After a close examination of the wiring diagram, I noticed the unloader relay is one of a couple "checks" in the power system to the main head unit which is the tape deck in my case.
I swapped this relay with the rear defrost and my radio turned on immediately. I swapped them back and the radio would not turn on.
Hope this helps someone in the future!
