    ~~M3Rob95's '94 e36 M-Technic restoration thread~~

I went to Dave Markert's new shop in Lawrenceville to get my Spec E36 ready for Road Atlanta when I first saw this car. I had always wanted an Alpine white e36 and knew I had to have this car. I asked Dave for the owners' number and I gave her a call. Less than a week later I got the car...

I had only seen the car in the dark and I had not even driven it. To say the least, I had a bit of buyers remorse when I drove it home. The rear trailing arm bushings were completely shot and it drove like crap! It was actually kind of dangerous... The brakes were absolutely awful as well.

I got it home, jacked it up, and began tearing it down. EVERYTHING will be replaced

It did have a nice brand new set of Bilsteins with H&R springs, but the front end looks terrible!!!

Duct taped corner light! I removed the tape and its not even lose!?

    Rusty spots :P

Apparently they only made 150 of these bad boys. They have some unique parts:

I removed the rear windows and cleaned up where the old/rotting seals were.

I also removed the black window trim that goes around all the windows. It had some rust spots on it so I will be restoring it with good ol' trusty Krylon fusion satin black paint. New trim pieces are around $115 new and will look exactly the same as my restored ones.

You can see it will need some body work behind the driver door.

Back in December of 2010, a kid I knew got this pretty sweet black e36. He needed me to swap his cooling system and I was more than glad to help out.

When I was first checking out the car, I was like, "Dude, nice shift knob. Too bad it has a 6-speed emblem..."

He replied, "It is a 6-speed!"

I couldnt believe it! This kid knew nothing about e36 or what he had.

Upon further inspection, I found out it had a Stickley built OBDI S52 engine with cams, euro headers, 3.5in intake system, injectors, custom ignition coils, underdrive pullies, UUC 8.5lb flywheel, 3.38 diff, etc. The thing is QUICK!!!!!

Unfortunately, I gave it a month before I knew it would be totaled.

Sure enough, I was right. A few weeks after he got it, he balled it up. Every single panel on the car had some kind of damage. As far as I know, he slid off the road on some ice, and did several 360s along a fence on the side of the road! lol.

Anyways, got it towed to my house for a tear down...

I did take it for a quick spin and it was still really fast :P

    That night:

That morning I got to work.

I have two Active Autowerk exhausts!!! WOO

Few hours later, I made the engine my btcih.

Then put it right next to my white car to get them introduced to each other, haha!

Black car had nice seats! Flipped them for a nice penny, +$120.

    Rears are still FS $50

The M50 is for sale out of the M-Technic. That would be nice to own

The white car had AA adjustable lower control arms. Also FS :P :P :P

Got the trans off the 3.2. This was the first time I confirmed it did have a UUC lightweight flywheel. Sold it for a nice penny as well, +$750

Started tearing down the engine to freshen everything up. Everything would be properly cleaned and degreased. Then things that needed paint would be addressed.

I was happy to find that my oil filter housing had an oil temp and pressure sender adaptor. I will be using that for my Spec E36 engine I have been working on...

    After some enamel:

    Degreasing some other parts:

    Like new:

Black car had UUC mounts and TME. Yes, you guessed it; also for sale

    Black dash that is FS:

Black car had Eibach Pro-Series Sport dampeners with springs. K-Mac Camber plates and BMP rear shock mounts. As well as Eibach sways. Everything is FORRRRRRRR SALE!!!!!!! (No this is not meant to be a For Sale thread! haha)

Restored engine mount arms mounted to a nice/clean engine:

I lucked out because when I fixed the original owner of the black cars cooling system, I replaced everything! All new belts, tensioners, pullies, water pump, tstat, housing, etc!

I will be replacing every other seal and what not to keep everything clean:

    Clean oil filter housing:

Got the roof cut off the black car and did a little "Swag Surfin' " No, you can't be like me!

This is the black car in a small pile! I need to borrow a trailer so I can take it to get recycled.

So thats about where I am up to this point. When I get the rest of the black car out of the garage, I will have more room to keep working on the M-Technic.

Its about to get started! Woooo

I almost picked up a 94 M Technic in Southern California about a year ago with the intention of s50 or s52 swapping it.

Glad to see you're going to do it! I just need to figure out what to put my spare s38 into...

how hard was it to remove the window trim that you're going to repaint and removing the window seals? I gotta change my seals and I want to re-paint my window trim, my paint is also faded/bubbled.

Very easy! I asked around and some un-named people said it was difficult/impossible. It took all of 5 minutes and little/to no beer

Yes, it is a Getrag 6 speed. Hopefully everything inside it is nice. I will be putting in some nice fluids but you never know. It had a UUC EvoIII short shifter which I hear can be bad for syncros??
