    E36 M3 Front Wheel Hub/Bearing FYI - $$

I've got two failing wheel bearings in the front and I've spent the last couple of days looking for the best replacements. The OEM set (as far as I know) went 100K miles. I literally just passed 100K yesterday.

I found a couple of references to AutoZone sold Timken bearings actaully being OEM F.A.G., but the references were 2-3 years old. Auto parts manufacturers change suppliers like dirty underwear, so I wanted to be sure that I would be getting FAG if I ordered through AutoZone so I ordred up a single bearing.

It arrived today and low and behold, in the Timken box was an F.A.G. bearing!!

OEM quality parts for better prices. Proof in pictures below. Hope I can save some other E36M3 owners some cash. It took a couple of days for AZ to get the thing in the store.

Your post is quite unclear. AZ lists both Timken ($113, not a good price) and Duralast ($78 a very good price) front wheel bearings. Are you trying to say that when ordering the Duralast you got the Timken?

I did a bit of looking around and through most of the online vendors that F.A.G. bearing was selling for north of $130ish. Buy the Timken from AutoZone and pay $112.

I retract the DuraLast statement. Rereading my post it does seem unclear.

But a good deal for OEM stuff not withstanding!

FYI, FAG probably won't clear PF rotors.

    ^Just saying.

    It's hard to know what all of the different makes of hubs are so I just go with;

    http://store.bimmerworld.com/front-h...lies-p669.aspx

And know I'm good. Even if it cost a tad more than others.

As a FYI... CMuzyy is usually cheapest on 80% of OEM parts

Any particular reason not to want the Timken? After all, they're the company that invented the roller bearing. (Yes, I know that our hubs don't use roller type bearings.)

Timken > F.A.G. anyway...because made in America and their quality is every bit as good (if not better)

That is nice that you were able to get them however, they have been on backorder for a long time now. I was able to find some used low miles bearings that I will just repack with redline CV2.

I have found that Mike at TheBMWPartStore is cheaper than CMuzzy on many genuine OEM parts. Not all parts mind you but most.
What I really like about doing business with Mike is that he such a personable guy. He knows me well, asks me how I've been hows the car... he is very quick to respond and he has helped me out finding odd part numbers several times. He even went so far as to order several pilot bearings to see if there was a variance in the OD of the bearing and sent me pictures because I was concerned about it.
I am absolutely plugging TheBMWPartStore but with the treatment I get from them I really want to see them do well, stick around, and keep the deals rolling. Also shipping was fast, cheap, and Mike sends you out confirmation or any delays (usually a day or two because part is in the warehouse).

I met him at a meet in Columbus one time. Real nice guy and his Mini is pretty sweet

he is currently hard at work helping me look for OE front mudflaps (no joke).....I thought he had forgotten about it but last week, he sent me an email telling me he's still looking...Aboye and beyond beyond above and beyond? by a fricking mile, yes!

I've given them enough business and I will continue to do so
