Wes, I think I love you again. M systems make up for your move to the dark side of narrow grilles. Welcome back

Narrow grille?
/facepalm
but seriously, why all the negativity against narrow grilles? I think it looks much more classic than the wide nose. I don't dislike the wide, I just much prefer the narrow. I also plan to switch to the elephant ear mirrors in the future.
I mean, its my car. I'm gonna do it up how I think looks the best.
I'm just teasing, I have no problem with you doing what you want with your car.
Just saying my personal preference is wide grill. But on an M5 it's a narrow grill for me. So I'm sort of neutral

Retrofitted early style mirrors today, was slightly bummed to realize I had to remove the entire door panel to do so for one wire connector, but managed to get it done pretty easily. Didn't even break a door panel clip (insane how many broke last time i took one off, but it was cold out too)
Going to need a new piece of glass for the drivers side, but the passenger side is in perfect condition. Thanks ross1 for the mirrors!

Holy updates batman! Sooooooo.. diggin this up and getting it up to speed, wow. here we go.

So I was running stock height, beefy tire, staggered m-systems for a while. With the early style mirrors from a memory car (retains plug and play and all functions), You can also see the lamin-x euro smileys, lamin-x foglights, and plate delete trim.
Love this steering wheel. M-tech 2 from sskoda.
Then I got a magnaflow muffler installed with the DTM tips which personally I'm a big fan of. I removed the rear resonator as well, I find it to be some sweet muscle car tone without the rasp that the resonator and muffler delete had. That was just straight madness, sounded like a cobra mustang or something.

So then I installed my coilovers with Mike day and Alex henry, some awesome dudes and Thanks so much for the help guys.
- - - Updated - - -The only hiccup we ran into was my tires/spacers. I'm running staggered m-systems so, 17x8 et 20 fronts and 17x9 rears, et 22. I have 235/40/17 up front and 255/40/17. The rears had no problem, but the fronts rubbed like crazy with no spacer. I bought 20mm spacers from ross1, but he must have accidentally sent the wrong lug bolts because they were too big of threads. We guessed audi bolts. So anyway, the spare 5mm spacer Alex had wasn't doing enough either, still rubbing like crazy. He was nice enough to let me borrow the 10mm spacers off of his car, and switched to his other set of wheels that didn't require a spacer on his car.
After the spacer was settled (I still need to get the proper size, 15mm. Or I could run the 20mm with proper bolts and get a smaller tire. I'm torn between 215/40 and 225/40. If I went 215, then I'd want to use the 235 I have up front now on the 9 inch rear wheels and acquire a rear spacer as well).
The ride awesome. I was worried they'd be boucy and harsh just because I've never had a car without stock sport suspension (both of the bmw's I owned have had it). Very pleasant surprise. Here's a few pictures I took of the job, but not too many because my hands were dirty the entire time and it was a bit inconvienent to stop work to take a photo. Kudos to anyone who makes DIY threads, you have patience.
I still wanna drop the rear a bit, but I"m gonna wait for them to settle before doing that so I can re-evaluate.
Alex's dachsund, sasha.
gettin ready to get in there
also a resting spot for my new euro plate during the job haha.
2 down, 2 to go...
The Cancer of my car... rust.
The workspace was great, despite small appearances
mocked up ready for weld, we had to smack that sucker in there pretty damn hard.
850 brakes just hangin out for the day
been meaning to handle this situation for a while now... original owner's idea of acquiring camber on the cheap.
fancy custom washer for the third hole, why not just buy camber plates? I do not know.
new and improved
adjusting required, our idea of "low" was overly ambitious at first go and resulted in the car being DUMPED. no turning radius though with the meaty tires. Atleast I know I have the ability to get low should I desire
no good pics of the welds, was busy at that point greasing the threads for the fronts
have this one though
pre wash
mmm
It rubs if you turn the wheel fully, but only fully.
This is my first ever lowered car and the 130 mile trip home from Alex's house was awesome. Love it so far.
Big thanks to Alex and Mike for all the help, enthusiasts just helpin each other out. The best.
When I tried to get a good shot for the e34 calendar, didn't happen .... but next year :devilook
When I made the switch to staggered turbines instead of throwing stars.... Still miss those, I want to have both ideally, and all 4 wheels be rears. One day....
But now.... M-sport bumpers! Painting hood and mirrors as well!!
Also reverted to ambers all around, and removed the black trim rings and lamin-x highbeams.
Last "nice pictures" I took of Hans.. Expect new ones soon when I get him back from paint! I also have a few maintenance things to take care of coming up and I'm going to be better about documenting those in here.
Hope you enjoyed the pics!
Mmmmmm! M-systems with both turbine covers and Tstars! I am diggin' the turbines with the 9" rears!
Looking good. Ccan't wait to see the freshly painted bits. Mauritiusblau Metallic is such an awesome color too!

about time you painted that hood!
That's a heck of an update...
You should keep all your posts related to the car here in one post.
That's gonna be sweet when you get the paint work done.
Very cool car, and awesome to see all you have done with it. Really good motivation for getting into my 535i/5 and start fixing him up. Soon.
Thanks Guys, Yeah this is going to be my drop off zone for all pictures/updates/work done on the car now.
such as...
New parts, cabin air filter, resistor for blower motor speed annoyance problem, and new foglight back. Still waiting for the car to come back so the parts await.... Might end up buying another one of the plate fillers so I can drill holes in one for the license plate and leave the other plain.
When the car comes back I plan on getting some LIGHT tint for the windows, lowering the rear a tiny bit more/evening it out (slightly off right now height from side to side), and getting an alignment.
Anxiously awaiting bimmerfest

looks good with the painted bumper!
What are you going to do about the front plate? I remember when I lived in NJ and had my plate on the window on my jetta I always got something from the cops.
Looking good, although i liked it more with the clear corners but its your ride and it still looks awesome
96 Hellrot 328i (under construction)...98 Artic Silver 328i SOLD!!
A few photos from the guy who painted it.
bumper done, hood/fender blend next.
and some iPhone pics from this morning after a self serve touchless wash
I need to get a light tint now, but man I'm havin such a hard time not staring at my car when I get out of it.. ha.
For now, front plate will stay as is. I'll probably buy a second bumper trim to drill holes in and run the plate if the law gives me problems about it. I have just used the "the car was a pennsylvania car before I got it and didn't need the bracket so I can't mount it till I get that" and get a warning/told to get it on or next times a ticket etc... Ha.
Damn, looks great Wes. That blue is such a nice color.
