First off, I didn't see this thread until now - awesome score.
No one's pulled the full build sheet for you yet?
I just sent an email to my friend at the dealer with the VIN; he should email me back tomorrow.
The colour is not listed on the build sheet (I have all of them if anyone needs to know anything about an E34 M5) for this one. I believe it could be Macao blue (250)? Anyone agree? If that's the case, then it is the only E34 M5 North-American version is that colour. Macaoblue matches your description as it is blue/purple. I had one in the same colour just a year ago.
This is what you get on the build sheet:

Bumping this because '95 panels are now in Trevor's possession and I'm sure we all want updates.
Wow Trevor. This is the 1st time I saw this thread. Nice score. I'm not really big on m5's myself but for that price you can't go wrong. Can't wait to see the updates.
Nice find, sorry I missed the thread earlier!! Love the colour... sucks about the damage but hopefuly it's not too bad underneath. Love the colour....
Well I have a few things to update, but before that I am going to need some help.
I took the throttle bodies off to clean them up and replace the gaskets. After reinstalling them and a vacuum line kit the car is now idling between 1.3 and 1.8k RPM. Every now and then it drops down to 800 or 1000 for a bit, but this is clearly more than just the DME needing to wake up.
I checked around for disconnected hoses or sensors and all seems to be in good order. I read in other threads that vacuum leaks can cause idles to be a few hundred RPM high, but not anything like this. I checked to make sure that the throttle and cruise cables are not caught on anything and they are not.
If I unplug the throttle position sensor (TPS), the idle does not change a bit. Any thoughts?

nice looking car. I always thought about doing the older 5 series. seems like you got a diamond in the rough
There's a plug that goes into the side of the air filter box next to the maf. Make sure it's plugged in.Originally Posted by TGreene
Yeah I have that guy plugged in.
I installed a new throttle cable and that did not do anything. I also started the car with the throttle and cruise bracket entirely off and the idle was still 1.5k RPM.
I took the plenum off to double check things and I felt beneath some kind of box beneath the ICV and found a vacuum nipple facing the engine block with a few crumbled bits of hose on it. It looks to be part # 7 or part #11 in the following diagram:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...74&hg=11&fg=45
According to this diagram, the guide for installing the hoses that came with the silicone hose kit is wrong, since the kit says to connect hose # 14 (in the diagram above) to the bottom of the air accumulator instead of whatever part it shows on realOEM.

nevermind
The color is Amethyst.
Awesome find! It gives me hope of finding a deal like yours. Keep us posted on your progress. If for some reason you find you must sell it, give us a chance to buy it before you go public with it.
Alright, here are pictures of what I was talking about a post or two up.
The intake plenum is out:
Beneath the ICV is where I have my two problems:
First problem is that broken cable/hose/hard yellow plastic thing right in the middle of the picture above? I traced it back towards the front of the engine but then I lose it when it wraps around underneath the thermostat housing.
Second, there is that nipple that had some crumbling vacuum hose on it that points towards the engine. In this next picture you can see a box hanging down off of a bracket about two inches beneath the ICV. There is one black vacuum hose coming off of it headed towards the firewall. There is a second nipple facing the engine that you cannot see:
I try and use this diagram but it confuses the hell out of me because I only have one of those boxes (labelled part numbers 7 and 11) but the diagram shows two.
This is how I have the intake plenum because in the vacuum hose kit it says:
"18. Vacuum module on accumulator to forward fitting on bottom of accumulator." However, on that realOEM diagram it shows the hose going from the vacuum module at the top of the accumulator down to that engine-facing nipple on the box below the ICV - the one that is currently vacant in my engine bay.
Hrmm.
