That color is amazing, can't wait to see how this turns out
I had my brother drive me over to the place where I stored it during the hurricane.
We got in and drove around until the oil temp was a bit warm and I we took did some 2nd and 3rd drives up to about 5.5k. I really have fallen in love with it. It is not incredibly fast but it feels so tight, solid and good. I don't know how I am going to be able to deal with it if the engine blows.
While warming it up I was coasting down a hill in 4th. I gave it some gas at around 1.3k RPM and the clutch slipped. I let off and tested it again to be sure. I am not too bummed about it. I should be able to baby it for another thousand miles or so which will last me a long time since it is not a DD. After all, doing the clutch in the nice autumn weather will give me a chance to clean things up, poke around a bit, replace the trans fluid, etc.

Trevor, oil should be at least the notch below 210 for hard pulls. And 5.5 is nothing for these things. Peak power is at 6900! 5k is where the magic starts to happen. Wait till she's good and sorted and go do a 7k in 3rd pull and see how much you love her.Originally Posted by TGreene

Thanks for the tip with the oil temp. I will keep an eye on it. BTW I love how the MPG gauge is replaced by an oil temp gauge!
Thanks man. If I end up taking it down to Gainessville with me when I head back down there in a few months I will have to swing by.

Well so far I have replaced the LKM since the front left headlight was working only intermittently.
I also replaced the lighted shift knob with another original M5 shift knob. The lighted one seemed to be rubbing off on top and it felt sticky.
This morning while having coffee at my parents' house before work my mom backed into the passenger fender with her Suburban. The damage went right above the wheel, and seems to have only trashed the fender. I will take a whole lot of documentation before moving anything so that I can prove that there is no damage beyond the fender. Since it is a rare color though I won't be able to source another fender, and I don't want her to try and pay for what it would take to make it look unnoticeable. I will have to figure something out.

I saw a similar color M5 for sale a few years ago in Berkely California, Depending on the sun it could be Royal Blue or Technoviolet which I thought the used only on the e31. BMW came out with some wild colors at the end of the 80s,early 90s, I remember going into the huge warehouse in Berkely where Weatherford BMW stored all their cars and it looked like a Miami Vice commercial all the greens, reds and purples, now the colors really look dated. You have a find my friend so take your time and bring it back to it's former glory.

It is not such a big deal. If it were a stranger it might even be a plus because I would argue myself to dealth and take and take $700 or whatever and put it into a full respray fund, but it is my family so I don't want their money.
I was petting my old family dog and she came in the front door balling her eyes out. I thought she had broken her arm in half or something. I walked into the room and asked what was wrong and she said she hit my car.
I expected it to be totalled or something but she just ran her rear driver's fender up over my passenger fender as she backed out. She way way more upset than I was.
I will probably take it off, hammer it out and be done with it. I already have a spare straight fender, so I will deal it with it for a few years before a full respray I guess. I seriously doubt they would be able to make it look new even if I had the best people in the D.C. metro area handle it. Respraying panels on cars with 20 year old paint never seems to match.

Repair history for that car stops just before 140k for the regular radiator cap recall... Looks like it came from Pennsylvania, and then Virgina. Nevertheless, nice color combo

I will get some better quality pictures with a tripod and feeler gauges just to take make sure that I can give any future owners a very good idea of the damage before I go pull it out and drive it off to get an estimate to fix it.

wow that sucks...
You coudl ave some money by swpping a fender on and just having a shop paint and blend it they will need to blend down the door and on the hood...

That's one way to get negative looking offset, I wonder how long it is before stanceworks starts to copy you.
I think the front bumper of my car used to be sonderlack. While putting it on i noticed that the back of the bumper was a color similar to that.
Dayum Trevor I can imagine the look on your face when you saw the aftermath.
I'll try and give you a Quick estimate from memory and from the pics. (Very much Shop dependant)
It's a 2 panel job. Your fender and the pass. door which has to be blended in to match.
Unless they can match it perfectly without the fender on the car.
12 hrs total with a pull and blend
9-10 hrs total with a replace and blend (if the can match it perfect blend may not be necessary)
All in all a 2 to 3 day downtime.
from there its whatever they charge hourly, what type paint, and if they are buying a new fender.
Actual charges very (ie shop dependant)
