Who knows that mine is these days? I don't think it has really been Macao since I have owned it.
I have yet to get in touch with the previous owner who had had all of the work done at Korman in N.C. I wonder what his story of the car will be.

Shit, Trevor; my old M5 seats still look amazing after all this time! It was nice that that they will get a new home, and you made the Drive from VA to the Florida border to the in-laws house to pick up the interior, wish the passenger side seat wasn't tweaked from the dumb bitch and 2 guy friends that distracted her and causing her to run a red light in a rain storm and slamming into me! Every day I miss my old M5, it was one of my best BMWs I ever owned never was able to replace it again due to cost and distance avaliablity! Still have a small box of remaining parts if you are interested? Always check in with your thread and enjoy the process and adventure!Shawn

Hey Shawn,
The seats are doing well. The leather is well worn but still looks and feels great.
I got back to the car a few days ago and have spent most of my time going through my storage unit and getting set back up, but I have had time to do a few things.
The car aged a good bit while I was away. Clear coat is running away on the hood, and starting to go on the rear passenger door.

The gas door hinge broke, and has since been fixed.

And of course this:

The rear impact strips were not lining up and securing properly since swapping in the euro trim so I took off the center piece and trimmed it with a dremel. I painted all of the pieces in flat blat to match, and did the rear filler plate while I was at it.

I was able to hunt down and fix another rattle that had developed last year.
I pulled off of the cowl pieces and tightened down the large nut on the driver's wiper that had become loose.

Here the cowl pieces are before I painted them with the same flat black:

I was in the driver's seat about to hit the road and visit a friend that lives a few hours away in the desert when I heard an odd noise. I opened the hood and could hear a bit of grinding coming from the water pump, so I parked it and started ripping it all apart.

Time to do a lot of work, and I am excited about it. I am working on removing things and preparing for a good steam cleaning. Lots on the list of this round of maintenance. I am going to try and tackle the front timing cover, oil pan, and installation of a redesigned S38 crank hub while I am in there.

I also bought a 535i off of craigslist for the eventual swap of the G260/188MM running gear.

Nice progress Trevor, and the 535i looks nice. How's the interior? Sorry if I missed it, but what is the 188MM running gear you're referring to? Metric Mechanic goodies?
"Big Red" 9/88 Build 535i/5: E.A.T. Chip, 24lb Bosch Design III, 3.46 LSD, 4x Clear corners, DINAN-style 750i muffler, Racing King Subframe Inserts, Koni/Vogtland suspension, E34 M5 swaybars, Brembo/Porterfield brakes, Turbodiesel grills, 16" Style 8 rims, Euro front plate, M5 rear filler plate.SaveSave
The interior is very dirty. The car was maintained decently mechanically but there are few things in the interior worth keeping. I fixed a fuel leak in it, did the fuel filter, and swapped over the two driver's side doors with the ones from the '92 M5 parts car. I might keep it as a beater for a few weeks and use it to teach my friend how to drive a manual car.
188MM is just a medium case diff. Bolt on, cheaper, more common, lighter, less rotating mass, more ratio options.

Car's looking good. It's in good hands I can tell. That paint is gorgeous.
Not to threadjack, but I've been considering swapping a 3.15 into mine, ... the more I've read the more I've confused myself. Was hoping for a plug and play solution to improve MPG a little. Any tips would be welcomed. I don't want to clog up your thread with details - just PM me if you have time.
Awesome work..
Just read through the whole thing, great work you've done. Any updates?
I just did the same. Pretty awesome thread, hope to see some updates soon
^^ That would make 3 of us. Curious to know how things have been progressing!
