    Tidings of the Season

Although it is now a week after our American Thanksgiving holiday, I hope it is not too late for me to express my humble and grateful thanks to the thousands of folks in bimmerforums and around the world who help to make the BAURSPOTTING blog possible by their interest in, and enthusiasm for, these wonderful cars. This is truly a labor of love for me, and I hope you continue to enjoy reading it, sharing input, and Baurhunting as much as I enjoy writing it.

Best Wishes for the Holiday Season, in whatever context you celebrate it! Thank you all. --- Tom

N.B. The amount of interest in this little niche market of BMW Baurs is simply amazing to me. As of this date, BAURSPOTTING is read in 99 countries around the world. Who da thought??!! Of course, I remind myself that this may only mean that we have found the 1 guy in 99 different countries with too much time on his hands! To see a list of those 99 countries, (speaking of guys with too much time on their hands.... ) I just posted it last night...

    http://baurspotting.blogspot.com/

Moldova? The Island of Reunion? (The Baur really is a perfect island car, IMHO, btw. Reminds me of the surrey-top taxis on Capri, or in the Caribbean.)

New TC2 Baur Santa Clarita CA on Craigs List

I found this today while searching craigs list:

(Rudy found this same car for sale on 8/29/2011 and posted in his rudys list blog and we put it in Baurspotting also ... now it is for sale again)

    TC-BAUR 318i BMW - $6300 (Santa Clarita)

I'm selling my BMW 318i TC BAUR. It has been my favorite car but it's time to part from it. This car handles great and just a clean ride. The body kit is currently off of the car rite now because I was going to redo it but I ran out of time and money. It has a DTM carbon fiber trunk and 5 spoke ESM rims. It is very clean but does have a door ding on the driver side. In the interior it has matching momo race seats and a pioneer head unit with iPod hook up. It also has fairly new rear seats that match the momo seats. I love this car and I hate to let it go but it needs an owner that has more time for it. Just make me an offer but don't lo-ball me this car was imported and is US certified. Don't be shy on the offers. Please email me, call or text me at 661-733-67zero1

TC2 Baur in West Palm Beach FL

No affiliation, etc., found this on craigs list today:

1986 325e Baur West Palm Beach FL

This is my father's 1986 BMW 325e tc baur edition. The TC baur is a full convertible that maintains the structural ridgidity of a coupe by keeping the roof structure intact. It is a extremely rare model. The TC Baur version also offers a targat top removal or full removal of the roof. The Targa top slides into rails in the trunk for storage. The rear part is of cloth material and flips down. You can have it targa flip up at an angle or remove it completely. It offers many options. We have had the car for over 10 years and done all the our self. I have many reciepts and there are many new parts on the car. It is currently his daily driver. Asking $4500 or best offer

    Power everything
    A/C converted to r134
no cracks on dash and there are no tears on the seats
    5 speed manual
    great on gas
    lots of power
    2.7 liter 6 inline
    foglights

    Tom,

I can't help but wonder if that one in Santa Clarita was originally ordered by Torchwood to match their Land Rover . . .

Speaking of original owners (or at least original destinations), I am told by the gent who goes by the BAUR handle that my car was originally delivered to a customer in Belgium. Whether the "buyer" was indeed the actual owner or merely the grey-market exporter I really couldn't say.

Question: were Baur TC2s typically equipped with speakers in the specially-made rear package shelf? I have the opportunity to buy a nice "un-cut" Baur package shelf (no speaker holes), and I wondered whether Baur even bothered to install speakers there since they could not be effective with the rear top lowered. Mine has been hacked to install aftermarket speakers which protrude 3/4" above the package shelf, interfering with the rear top's ability to "nest" onto it and creating rub-marks on my plastic rear curtain.

"the gent who goes by the BAUR handle".... that would be Jeroen, the Baur Guru from The Netherlands. Jeroen may know whether the original buyer was an exporter or a private owner. He has access to all sorts of info like that, and he is a great resource for anything Baur. Ask him.

As for the speaker equipment.... if I were you I would consider just replacing those aftermarket speakers with something that would sit flush. Having them protrude like that is definitely not a good thing. Those rear speakers are rather muted with the top down, but.... the top is not always down.... at least up here in New England. I like having the option of using the rear shelf speakers with the top up. When the top is down you can simply fade the sound to the front speakers, right?

    Tom,

Okay, I'll ask Jeroen. He spontaneously offered the info regarding the Belgian delivery; I simply didn't bother to ask him for further details at that time.

Thanks for the advice on the package shelf. I think I'll still go a head and buy the uncut one (it's fairly cheap, particularly since it has to be shipped from England) and install much more modest speakers in it in place of the Size Huge jobs which are in there now; I don't think that the originals were 6" X 9" or larger.

Something about the shelf: Baur only "modded" the original. So any shelf can be used for your Baur, if your handy with a carpenter knife.

I don't know the exact date, but after a particular date, they delivered them with the speaker-openings.

About the first owner: I can't find out who that is. But what is possible, is to find out the exact BMW-dealer. You go to your BMW-dealer and ask them to search for the date of first use. There you can also find out the number of the BMW-dealer that sold that car. Found that out after I asked for that info for my own B47095, B47172 and B46121...the last two had the same number and corresponds to BMW-dealer Becker in Krefeld, Germany.

    Gr Jeroen

TC2 Baur in Portland OR Identified!

Thanks to Clio320i in the E21 forum, we have identified a previously unknown Baur that was spotted a couple of years ago in Portland OR. It belongs to bimmerforums member 85baur320i.

Check out post #165 in the "Baur TC1s in the US" thread in the E21 forum:

The owner of the Baur above informs me that his Baur plate number is 43139-13. I have sent that info along to Uwe at the Baur Registry for inclusion. We hope to learn more about this car shortly.

1985 BMW 323i Baur TC2 in Burbank CA

Thanks to vdubvance in E21 bimmerforums for the heads up on this TC2 Baur for sale again, or still, in Burbank CA. We have had it listed for sale in Baurspotting "Baurs for Sale" since last August, but it is still apparently available.

Car does have a California BAR sticker so it is a California smog legal car.
Car runs and drives great, everything works in the car including A/C.
Interior is in good condition except for the driver seat does have a tear in the bottom part of the seat.
Body is very clean no rust anywhere, right front fender and right door have a small damage not from an accident.

    Greetings Tom,

Noticed the ebay version of 86 Baur and also the Craigslist listing. I may have run out of garage space, but still thinking. How are you?

    1984 323i TC2 in California

Eliot R. has sent me some new pics of his 1984 323i Baur. His Baur # is B 42597-13. He bought the car last year, but immediately discovered some mechanical problems. He replaced the head gasket and did some work to repair an exhaust manifold, and here you can see the result: a beautiful white example of the TC2 Baur!

    7 more pics on Baurspotting!

Congratulations, Eliot, on a fine looking car, and thank you for sharing these pics with us!

    Hey Josh!

Just found your message here now. Hope all is well with you, and Happy New Year!

All is well here! Running out of garage space? Tell me about it! But that is nice big driveway you have there, providing you-know-who can live with it!

How is that gorgeous white MK II coming along?

BTW, I have contacted the new owner of your old car, Baur #917. It is a great story, because we have been able to trace that car's ownership through 5 owners, including you, from about 2001 until the present!
    http://baurspotting.blogspot.com/201...-baur-917.html

He actually owns TWO Baurs up in MA. His other Baur is a beauty!

Nice find, hawkeye! We know that guy! And he even got a pic of his Baur in!!! Woo Hoo! Big 'atta-boy' for Jeff!

My mag came the other day, but I haven't had a chance to open it.

BTW, Davey101, I gave you a plug recently for your help in getting me together with Afonso, the other CT Baur owner, last summer at Manchester. Sorry I missed you last year. Perhaps I will catch up with you there this year. Thanks again! It is a team effort!

    Tom,

Thanks. The joke is that I hadn't seen my letter in Roundel until Davey posted it (thanks to you too, Davey) -- I have yet to receive my copy! My December Roundel arrived on December 30; BMW CCA HQ blames the USPS. I’m wondering when my January issue will turn up . . .

That white Baur belonging to Elliott R. in California is a standout! Is that the same car which was listed on eBay out of California about four or five months ago? It looks a lot like it. Quite a find, even if he did have to address some mechanical glitches.

Yes, Jeff, you are correct! That white Baur was for sale on eBay last summer. If you check on my blog on the 'Baurs for Sale' page.... Scroll down to the ad dated 8/29/2011. There it is!

You will notice, btw, as you scroll down the page, that YOUR Baur is shown there also! It is a small Baur World that we live in!

New TC2 Baur in San Francisco area

    http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/2795162121.html

It is kind of funny. I was just contemplating a post about the fact that last night I did a nationwide search for Baurs actively for sale on craigs list and eBay. The only one I could come up with was this white one in Florida.
    http://miami.craigslist.org/pbc/cto/2757611841.html
As far as I can tell it is the ONLY Baur (a TC2, btw) that I could find anywhere in the entire country .... last night!

And now it appears that it may not be available for long!!

This morning I received an email from a former Baur owner who saw that Baur in my "Baurs for Sale' page on my blog, and he is currently arranging to have an inspection of it!!

Well I now have an update:
There is another Baur for sale tonight on craigs list! This time it is in the San Francisco area:
    http://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/cto/2795162121.html
The whole ad is posted here, along with a bunch of other Baur ads, some of which may be getting.... a little long in the tooth:

    Stay tuned!

Tom, not sure if you've seen these or not. I was sorting through a bunch of old pamphlets and brochures I bought off of ebay about 5 years ago and stumbled across these baur ones.

And this guy is about 13 pages with a pullout
