A guy from the 02 forum posted this pic for me, a screen shot from Google maps:
This is somewhere in San Gabriel CA. As you can see, there are two Baurs visible, and we do not know what is under the car cover. This is all the info I have so far, but we are working on getting more..... so stay tuned!

Notice how he is driving it "Landaulette' style. Driver sits in the shade, out of that "Warm California Sun", with a cool breeze blowing through the car!

My son recently took possession of the infamous 1984 Baur 323i B-41392-13. We had no clue how rare it was when we started looking at it. I have a million questions to ask the Baur community... but the first one I must ask is how/where do we get the top repaired or replaced? Both the Targa and ragtop need help...thanks in advance.
gunfighter,
Welcome to our "Fellowship" of the Baur community, and to BimmerForums.
I hope you can see the eBay link below; I found it a couple of days ago and saved it "just in case":
http://www.ebay.com/itm/130804161827?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p398 4.m1423.l2649
It is for a Baur front hardtop in supposedly good shape; they have actually dropped the price 25% since the intial listing appeared. Best of luck, and don't be afraid to ask those questions!

Hi and welcome to the Baur TC2 community!
There are several sources for the convertible soft top... I got mine from The Convertible Top Guys:
http://www.convertibletopguys.com/co...3i-325es-325ix
I got enough material to do the soft top and to recover the hardtop also. What does your targa top need? If it just needs recovering.... then these guys can help. Is there another problem with the targa top?
(BTW, technically Porsche owns the rights to the word 'targa', so BMW has to use "Top Cabriolet".)
Refresh my memory, please, on Baur B41392. I see it is a 323i,..... interior exterior colors? Where did you get it?
Please check out my Baurspotting blog:

Tomscat1 and BMWTyro,
Thanks for the quick response,
It's B41392-13, an achtagrun 323i automatic that the Baur Guru Jeroen makes mention of in post #16 of OTBaurspotting...I think???. My son bought the car from the previous owner who had it for about 2 years, we found it left neglected, outside on a country road in northern Maryland. That guy said he bought it from an owner in northern Virginia.
oh yeah...the interior is beige.

"Great info as always, Jeroen!
-A70164: 320i Polaris. Prechter Southgate----- Prechter is the American Sunroof Company.... the folks who apparently did Baur-type conversions here in the US under license from Baur. I would love to find that car.... to compare it to the one rigmaster has down in NC.
-B41392: 323iA Achatgrun. VOB Autosales Maryland (known to exist)----- I believe that would be a connection to Lothar Schuettler in Rockville MD. He was involved with the wide body E21 Baur that we have discussed in the E21 forum recently. He also owns a beautiful 1956 BMW 502 Baur Cabriolet, and many other amazing BMWs in his collection.
-B42293: 325eA US Burgundrot. European Car Company Foergg Wichita (might be the one known with Hartge-stripes)--- I just came across a pic of this one, deep red .... I think.... Alpina stripes, etc. in a post from 2005/6 in Nebraska. That could be it. Trying to track it down. Relatively speaking, Wichita, Kansas is not that far from Nebraska.
Thanks also for the info on the 7/11 issue re: the TC2s.
Only 3 (!!!) TC1s officially imported into the US?? Whoa! Correct me if I am wrong but... we spotted one that was sold down near Norfolk last year, and .... rigmaster has one... that makes two of the three!!??
Is that correct?"
Your car is ONE of the original 7 that BMW imported to the US!!!
One of the Magnificent Seven! Whoa! Great find !
Congratulations!

I don't think that you can post photos yet, but how does achtagrün (achatgrün?) compare to the opalgrün on my car in the sig photo? I dont think that I have ever seen that color.

Achatgrun is real close to "Bullitt" green from McQueen's old mustang...probably a bit darker.

Welcome and congratulations on the purchase of your Baur. If you get me the last seven digits of your vin I can provide you with a factory build sheet.
In regard to the recovering your hard top the seals and headliner are one unit and they are still available from BMW part #51710006412.

I find it strange that a 323i ( Euro ) would be one of the seven sold through US dealerships ? Anyone care to comment on that ? I would think that the vehicles sold through The Us dealership network would be US spec cars
The other puzzling thing to me is when I ran the vin through the warranty information in dealerspeed there is no information on the vehicle, there normally would be some info in there if the vehicle were sold in the USA. Within that information there would be the importer ( wholesale center) and the selling dealership.
I trust in Jereon's information and i am not disputing it, however, it seems odd.

Ed and gunslinger,
Is it possible that it is in fact a 325 which has been somehow mis-identified as a 323i? It might be instructive to know if the distrubutor is down on the left side of the engine (Euro spec) or up front ahead of the camshaft (U.S. spec).
Ed,
"ELEKTRISCHER BEIFAHRERSPIEGEL": radio? amp? antenna?
"ZENTRALVERRIEGELUNG ELEKTRISCH": electric central locking?
"BMW LM RAD/SPEICHENSTYLING": I can't even guess . . .

Jeff my man ! I am trying to find a factory option decoder so I know all the factory codes, I am not having much luck
ELEKTRISCHER BEIFAHRERSPIEGEL , is a passenger side electric mirror
ZENTRALVERRIEGELUNG ELEKTRISCH is central electric locking
BMW LM RAD/SPEICHENSTYLING are the rims "SPEICHENSTYLING" spoke style

VOB in Rockville MD is mentioned in connection with this car. Lothar Schuettler (now the owner of BMW Exluservice in Rockville) was doing a lot of importing and converting back in the day, and he was at VOB for some time before starting his own dealership. He may have been able to find a way to 'finesse' a 323i into the country.
I would suggest that gunfighter join the National Capital Chapter BMW CCA. Lothar Schuettler is still a very active member, I am told, and he still runs his shop in Rockville. I am sure he can glean some info on his car from some of the membership, if not from Lothar himself. I am told he is a very gracious and enthusiastic BMW guy. He has hosted DIY workshops for the National Capital Chapter at his shop, followed by a Tour of his garage at his home in Darnestown, MD. A mind-blowing experience, btw. And he just won one of BMW's most prestigious awards. If he has any info, I am sure he will share it.
Here is some info about him from my blog:

BMWTyro,
The distributor is mounted down low on the left front of the block and the engine serial number matches the VIN...
Tom, Lothar sounds like a very interesting person, perhaps you are correct about the vehicle however a "greymarket" vehicle is defined as a vehicle that is made for a country other the USA so it's some what confusing to me.
In essence this is a greymarket car sold through a US dealership.

I dont think Lothar Schuettler's shop is an official BMW dealership. Correct me if I am wrong.
https://www.facebook.com/BMWExcluservice
The dealer formerly known as VOB, for whom Lothar once worked, is now this:
http://www.bmwrockville.com/index.htm
I don't know if that could explain the circumstances of Baur 1392 or not. But I do think that Lothar worked on the periphery of, or just outside of, the normal BMW channels.... and that he could get you any kind of BMW you wanted back in those days.

I don't mean to sound like a drama queen but...This vehicle appears to be a bit of a mystery...I'm more intrigued now than before. This "Dealerspeed" is a BMW database for US cars only or worldwide?
Dealerspeed is BMW NA's computer data base, I am employed at a BMW dealership so I have access to it. I can access build sheets from any VIN for E30 era ( No E21 info :-( )and newer vehicles built anywhere in the world, The warranty information I am able to access is only for cars in the USA, However many greymarket cars in the US have data in the system, such as my car for instance, this may be due to the fact that the owner has brought the vehicle to a dealer for some sort of service or the parts department has recorded the vin in a system that communicates with BMW NA.
the general public doesn't have access to this information .
Your car is interesting indeed as it was produced for the Euro market and it is one the magnificent 7
