I have a 1984 323i TC2. I had recently bought the car and have loved it, im located the the Harford county,Md area. i was wondering if there were any other Baurs close?
Welcome, Baurpower!
Actually yes, there is another Baur owner fairly close to you. Search TomDC on this forum; I believe that he lives in MD, or possibly NoVA. He owns a Bronzit 1983 323i.
A good resource for you would be the U.S. Baur TC2 GoogleMap by tomscat1: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid...d247cd43&msa=0
Be sure to ask tomscat1 to add you to it -- and be sure to provide him with your Baur number for his registry, too.
I'm certain that we are all anxious to see photos of your car as soon as you are permitted to post them. In the meanitme, ask us anything -- some know a lot about these cars (such as The Pooleman and thejlevie); others not so much (such as I!).

Tom,
Thanks!
Do those two columns represent dealer cost and suggested retail, respectively?
And in what currency? Deutschmarks? U.S. dollars? Something else?

DM = Deutschmarks.
The second column shows a 14% increase. I am not sure what that is. We need someone to translate that for us.
That is quite a wide spread between the 316i and the 325ix!

Welcome, Congratulations on you recent purchase of a Baur, If you wouldnt mind taking a moment and adding you information to a thread I started last summer that would be great. Here's a link to the thread. http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...highlight=baur
Tom,
very interesting price list, It looks like the DM vs the $ back was a good exchange rate from dollars to DM @ the average of 1.76 marks to dollar !

Those 14% is the MwSt. Merhwertsteuer -> this is a sort of taxes which have to be paid on everything. There are two stages; the low for something you really need (food, clothes) and a higher for luxury articles.
Nowadays, the low is 7% in Germany and the high 19%.
These taxes are meant for the "living" user. With this, I mean to say; if I buy this car, I have to pay these taxes. But if my company (it will become my companycar), I don't have to pay these taxes.
Gr Jeroen
Jeroen,
Great to hear from you again; thanks for that clarification.
That MwSt. Merhwertsteuer tax sounds criminal. It is the sort of thing they want to force upon us over here in the U.S. as well. One politcal party calls it "FairTax"; the other calls it "Value Added Tax" ("VAT"). Either way, it amounts to the same rip-off.

Hi Jeff,
Let's tell you something about buying a car in the Netherlands. Allthough it's now changing a bit.
First of all, you have to pay the BTW (Dutch MwSt.). And after that, you have to pay BPM, a special tax meant only for vehicles.
So, let's say you buy a car that costs 20.000,-
First you have to pay 21% BTW
Makes 24.200,-
Than the BPM. This is 40% - 1288,-
Makes 32592,-
So this makes 12592,- on taxes. And then the taxes you pay on using the car (about 600-800 a year, for a normal familycar)
To make it a bit easier: a 325iX Baur TC costet Fl. 89.750,- in the Netherlands in '88. That makes DM. 80133,-
A modern example; the BMW 3-series F30 as 320i 4-door costs 31.000,- in Germany, 38.000,- in the Netherlands.
Gr Jeroen
Jeroen,
So a new car costing 20K new actually costs 32,600 after taxes in The Netherlands -- WOW!
For that sort of taxation, I hope that they keep your streets really clear of snow in winter . . . and that Meals On Wheels brings you breakfast, lunch and supper every day at no charge!

Hey guys, just recently bought a 83 baur 318i cabriolet alll the way here in aus! Pretty easy to understand why there is so many e30 lovers out there as the type of car is an absolute gem.
As it stands car needs a little work in terms of asthetics but mechanically runs fine, hope you lot can help me along the way in truly understanding the awesomeness of the Baur!

Search BMW 700 in the blog and you will see more! Those guys found ME on the blog last summer and told me about their project. They have been written up in other blogs also. I think they are asking about $70,000 for the pair!
Congrats and welcome to dasbaur!

Welcome to BimmerForums and to its Baur thread, dasbaur.
I may be wrong, but I don't think that Australia was a primary Baur market, same as the U.S. Could whoever posted the chart showing how many Baurs were officially sold in each nation please re-post it (or a link to it) for dasbaur . . . and for me, since I am obviously unable to locate it?
Thanks.

Thanks, Ed. I have now saved it to document as well as printed it off so I will always have a copy on hand.
Dasbaur, there is your answer: 783 went to Aurstralia, second only to Great Britain in Baur exports.

Thanks guys.
It will be great to pics if your new ride. As far as seeing other Baurs we know of about 50 TC2's in the USA and over 80 TC1's and I personally know of two 2002 targa's and I have seen 6 E21's in one place ( The vintage @ Saratoga last summer ) but never another E30 TC2.

Haha to find a 2002 or e21 here in Aus would be like finding gold, so rare! Yeh ill throw some pics up soon. In terms of how it is machanically i need to start getting a move on repairing some issues. Breaks are basically non existant, fix fuses, water pump etc....should be a fun little project
The E21 Baur owners and the E21 Legion are a force to be reckoned with here in the North East .

Now that summer has come and gone and our Los Angeles weather is getting cold and into the 50's i've realized that as much as i love my Baur TC, i simply just don't have the time to use it. the poor car sits in my company's warehouse and with all the other cars in my stash i still need to look after, I think this great car is being neglected. before i post on other sites to sell it, i thought i'd open it up first to anyone here.
This car was discussed previously on this thread as i bought it earlier in the year from a mechanic in Burbank. (Discussion and pictures start on Page 6) Since then, i've dumped some money into it with a new clutch and had the faded paint wet sanded to bring back some of the luster. it's by no means a perfect paint job, but it's now presentable and matches the patina of its age (Pictures on Page 15).
Please share this with any interested parties. i am attempting to upload pictures but apparently my "new" status on the forum now prevents me from doing so. please email me and i will send you photos.
it's a pretty solid, mechanically sound and driveable car in a pretty color combination. i'm selling for exactly what i paid for it ($5900), and it's in better shape now than when i bought it. and it's cheaper and in significantly better shape than some others i see for sale in southern california.
post any questions/comments here on this thread or you can email me at lotusexige2007@gmail.com
