Pretty decent, I suppose. If it actually sells for $6,500, then I'll be very encouraged regarding the value of mine.

Is that bulging panel full of holes below the HVAC control (see PhotBucket link) an indicator of the less-integrated aftermarket A/C system? I seem to have heard something to that effect.

Jeff, My car had dealer / aftermarket A/C installed in it , which I have removed the kit came with a grill that was added to the center console to accommodate the added blower motor see pic. the ones I have seen look nothing like the one in the photo on photobucket the dealer would make a cut out in area in front of the ash tray then add the grill to hide the blower motor

I would like to get something like this going for the TC2s also: HELP!!

Here is the first installment of what will eventually be a complete list of ALL the known TC1 Baurs in the US. While I have given only the minimum info here on these cars, I actually have tons more pics of most of these on file, which I will get to sooner or later.

For example, I have the history of Baur #917 from 2001, through 5 different owners, with pics from 4 of them! And we have tracked the Beaufort Baur, #982, from the East Coast to the West Coast, with pics from 4 different owners!

I wanted to get something up on the blog, so this post is a start. These are the US Baurs with Baur Plate numbers between #00000 and 01000 that we have some records on now. You will notice that, although we have pics, some of these Baurs are still unfound. We need your help to find them, boys and girls, so.... keep those cards and letters coming in! And there are more Baurs out there waiting to be found!

Together we have come a long way toward our goal of finding them ALL, but.... we can't do it without you. Thank you all, and ... enjoy!

    Stay tuned for more!

    Tom,

I just learned of a wrecked TC2 318i with an A/T. I will try to get the plate number for you so that it can be accounted for.

    HELP NEEDED

How the $%&* does one remove the $%&*ing interior courtesy lamp from the windshield header panel on a Baur TC2?!?

I have tried everything I know to try, and still it refuses to budge. Yes, I know about the little springy tab on the left side. No, nobody has glued the lamp assembly in there. I even took out the ActiveCheck panel (that practically FELL out!) and I still can’t get it to come out.

My motive in removing it is that there is no power to my door jamb switches and I thought the lamp a good place to start looking.

    EDIT:

Sorry, coudln't avoid the automerge . . . or venting the frustration. Today, the whole day went as described above.

I received some maintenance records from my previous owner. I really wish I didn't know what I didn't know. This car has had a lot of work done on it. Granted its 28 years old but the a/c system has been replaced twice, the fan clutch 3 times, the water pump 3 times, and the fuel system was practically ruined from sitting in storage for 6 years. I think the in-tank fuel pump is still making noise. Didn't notice it when I did the test drive but now I hear it. A/C compressor also rattles.

On the positive side I found a receipt from Baur for some parts the first owner ordered. My German isn't the best so I'm not sure if the Baur serial number is somewhere on the invoice. If someone can tell me how many digits, etc. then maybe I can decipher it.

    Ross,

Judging from the photo of the Baur tag in Post # 674, a good example of a Baur number would be B43466-13. (Too lazy to walk out to the garage and look at mine!)

Normal replacement schedule for the water pump and the fan clutch is every 100K miles (IIRC; someone correct me if not). If your car has an M20 engine (6-cyl.) then the normal replacement schedule for the timing belt is every 50K miles or 4 years. Since water pumps are cheap (though fan clutches aren't), sometimes they get replaced every 50K anyway since the tech or owner is "in there" anyway to change the belt. All told, I wouldn't be too concerned about the items which the maintenance records indicate were changed frequently -- it might even be a positive indicator of how well the car was maintained.

About the in-tank pump making noise: my 320i doesn't even have one! It appears to have been built that way. If there are two small wiring harnesses connected to the top of your sending unit, then yes indeed you have an in-tank lifter pump. One harness, then no.

Ross. US 318i's had a pre supply pump in the tank and an exterior pump. Here's a link to the in tank diagram on real oem
    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...46&hg=16&fg=05

in regards to the baur # you may find just this sequence ( example 44808 ) the range will be 41308 through 43312 for 1984

    Mostly tourings.
reading this thread I wish I'd bought the 325ixA-TC2 that was for sale locally a couple years ago... it was only 1500€ or something like that.

I don't quite recall the color though.

Edit: @Ross, just scan the invoice, I'll translate.

Back to my interior courtesy light issue for a moment:

It is clearly made by Hella, but it bears no part number on the face of the lens.

Does anyone know what its original Hella part number was? Or what its BMW part number was? I assume that it must have been adapted from a more popular application.

I found this diagram on RealOEM under “Various Lamps”:
    http://realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=1131&mospid=47257&btnr=63_0254& hg=63&fg=30

Note Ref. #1 in the diagram, P/N 63311363234. It is described as an interior light for the E30 Japan package, and it is clearly designed to recess into some sort of panel. Could this be the same light unit? I can find no illustration / mention of an interior light in any of the Baur drawings.

The reason that I want to find a part number is so I can have a replacement on hand or at least on order if (when?) I break it during removal. The lamp must now come out because I ended up disconnecting one of the wires and it would require a surgical scope and instruments to get it back on while in place.

Or can I simply remove the entire panel in which it mounts from the windshield surround without too much drama / damage? That might be the way to go if it is do-able. I am counting on my fellow Baurites to give me some direction here; if not y'all, "Who ya gonna call?"

Not sure if this is much help for you.....
My interior light on my 1982 TC1 Baur is located in the overhead roll bar. Here is a pic....

Sorry for the poor quality... camera phone pic in fading light.

I checked the Baur diagrams also.... nada. Tomorrow in the daylight I will have a look at two other E21 overhead lights..... as well as my 1989 325ix E30.... to see how they compare. My son has the E30 Cabrio, so that is not readily available.

I have never touched the unit.... so I have no experience to offer you on this, unfortunately.

I hope to get back to you before I leave for the Bav Auto show tomorrow.

Jeff, I would have posted some help sooner however, I just got home.

Here's a sequence of pics that may help.

This is what you are talking about right ?

take a small precision flat head screw driver and insert into the slot on the opposite side of the selector switch

put very light pressure on it to realse it

    Then slide that side downward

in this next shot you can see the spring clip clearly

    I hope this helps Ed

On a side note the lamp switch is rather cheesy and they have a tendency to brake also where the spring clip sits in the plastic lens will become brittle over time and will also fail , hopefully someone did not glue it in place

Tom I think BMW used that light since the dawn of time ! I had the same one in My 1st BMW a 1968 1600-2.

@ Jeff If you are replacing the bulb you can get LED from pep boys or auto zone it's a good upgrade.

    Tom and Ed,

Thank you both for going to so trouble much for such a stupid problem!

Ed, you have no idea how much I envy you that photo sequence -- I fought with that light for at least 20 minutes, depressing the tab while (carefully) prying from behind with a screwdriver . . . but it is still in there. If I pry any harder, it will break; I can see where it is cracked already.

I hope I can buy one of these lamps new from BMW. Does yours have a part number on it? If not, I suppose that I should just look up one for a '68 1600-2. Can you tell me where it mounted in that car? BTW, it is definitely not the same part as those in Dawn's 325e sedan.

    Thanks again.

    Jeff

    Bavarian Autosport Show and shine

Sunday October 7th in Portsmouth NH at Bavarian Autosport annual show shine we had every generation Baur TC represented and a 1962 700 vert.

The 700 was powered by a modified R75 engine. you could eat out of this engine bay.

    Ed and Tom,
Looks as though you gents had a great time. I know I'm nuts, but I'd really love to have a BMW 700 Baur -- of course, one of those is probably worth three (four? more?) Miss Opals.

    Tom,
Is that your son with you in those photos?

    Jeff

    EDIT:

I just paged-through the whole album. WOW -- there were some really rare, really well-done Bimmers in attendance! I'll bet that there were some real "characters" there as well. Did Rob Siegel (The Hack Mechanic) and/or Mike Self (02 Cents Worth) make it?

Ed, what's with the limerock edition m3 plaque? Was that an e92? Totally missed that one. The 700 was a neat little car! The exhaust was pretty comical.

Your car was awesome in person. First e30 baur I've ever seen. The only pictures I took were of the baur roofs and their clamps/attachments...
