i finally took some picture of the blue baur. it went through a though detail inside and out. while it looks pretty good in pictures, i'd say it is a 10 foot paint job as the hood and trunk are somewhat aged and in need of a respray. the sides are good other than the fact that it was a cheap repaint.
the leather is pretty dry and while it somewhat came back with conditioner, most of it is beyond repair and will need to be replaced. the door cards are in good condition except that they've been cut into for speakers!? dash was replaced so it's in good shape. carpets are also good and i just bought a set of indigo floormats which i found on ebay.
the roof is excellent and a new plastic window was installed previously. i would like to have a tonneau cover made in blue to keep the folded roof protected, as i don't plan to drive with the top up ever.
the car is at my non-bmw mechanic for a second opinion. the transmission was leaking and the throw out bearing was making noise. so a new seal along with a new clutch are being put in as we speak. but overall he thinks it's solid.
the british plates are there because the car didn't come with license plates and i figured something was better than nothing as far as the local constabulary were concerned until i receive my actual CA plates.
i'll post future updates as they happen.

Looks great! Congrats!
I got the tonneau for my E21 Baur from Walloth and Nesch in Germany, btw.
What color is that? Mine is laupisblau, close to your color.
Found: 4 Wheel Drive Baur-Style Convertible--- Made in the USA!
THIS IS NOT A MISPRINT!
Thanks to Mike and Lore E. out in the Puget Sound area, we have info on a 4 wheel Drive Baur-style Convertible---- think E30 325iX Baur!--- that was not only made in the USA, but it has been right under our noses for over 30 years! it actually PREDATES the TC2 Baur 325iX!
Who can identify this car?
Square headlights!
Hint: it was a collaboration with the folks who gave us the TVR Griffith!

Was it build by the same person who did the Celica Sunchaser?
@Tsunami; lapisblau (yes Tom, the same colour as yours) really looks fresh when it's been polished!
Yesterday I bought another TC2 btw. It's a 320i from '83, the B40541-13, delivered in Belgium. Non runner, due to "burned" cables. And off course some rust. I will try to get it running again, otherwise it will end up as a donorcar.
It's colour is Graphit-metallic 87.

YES! Griffith did the conversion on the Toyota Celica Sunchaser, as well as the car in my previous post.

Tom,
The car in post #352 is a modified 1980-something AMC Eagle, which was a 4x4 version of the AMC Concorde, which was in turn a recycled AMC Hornet (originally introduced in 1970). I have no idea what Griffith called it after they modified it; I have never seen one before.

Tomcat: thanks, that's a flashback -- at least the sunchaser celica, I remember seeing one a while back and thinking what a cool car. The old celicas were great cars too (my sister and dad each had one). I did see an AMC Eagle stationwagon on the beltway the other day. Also, Tom check out e21 baur for sale link below. It's just a hop, skip away...
T'racer: your car looks great. I'll repeat myself and mention what a difference it makes with the marker lights on the bumper.
Jeroen: How many baurs does that make for you? Please leave some Baur material in Belgium for me when I get there! Are those tsw hockenheims on the car? If so, what size?
Speaking of Belgium, here's an e21 Baur for sale. The listing is pretty funny b/c the seller comes across as a grumpy old man -- he basically says it's 31 years old so "do not dream about a car that just came from the factory!" Still, it looks great.

Some of you may know that my wife and I just returned from a vacation down South. We included an overnight stop in Chattanooga, TN to see a friend, Jeff, and, as a Civil War buff, to take in a few Civil War sites (Chickamauga/Chattanooga National Military Battlefield, Lookout Mountain, etc.).
About two years ago, Jeff had alerted me to the presence of a white Baur that he had spotted in Chattanooga, but he had no other information on it. I have had it listed in the Interim Report in the "Unknown Baur Number, Unconfirmed Report" category since then:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtrzAT-dK6H1dDhIemd5SVJMSEhMbDRwMW5Td0U4Q2c&hl=en_US#gid= 0
So yesterday I get an email out of the blue:
"I found your Baur site tonite and wanted to tell you I have been the proud owner for 27+years of a 1983 BMW Baur Convertible; White, with approx 115,000 Miles. I have owned the car since 1985 (as I purchased the car from a NC friend who actually saw the Baur in Germany & Imported the car into North Carolina.).
The Vin on my car is .............. & is located in Chattanooga, TN."
!!!
See attached pics. How about that! The owner believes that he is the only white Baur in Chattanooga! So, it took us almost two years but.... we NAILED it!
BTW, he stated that he used to own TWO Baurs: the other was a 1985 Bronzit Automatic, that he gave to his son, who later sold it to a friend.
TomDC, didnt you say something about a Bronzit Baur that you formerly owned? Or did I mix that up?
Now THAT would be a mind-blowing coincidence, wouldn't it???
BTW, the white Baur is a 323i, and I will pass along more info as I receive it. I have invited the owner to join us here.
Ain't we got fun!!
Day um. I love this stuff!

Wow, owning a car since '85, really great!
@TomDC: I currently own 4 Baur's:
A72822 318i
B40541 320i
B47095&B47172 325iX
I also owned/took apart
B44149, 323i and B46121 318i.
Some other TC2's I took apart:
B41507 316 (found that in a junkyard near)
B43629 318i (in a junkyard on about half an hour drive)
B47513 320i (friend of mine, owner of the B44862, bought all the Baur & M-Technic I-parts)
And some pictures of me with the B47513 (also a Belgium car):
Me in action!
Nothing that came from Baur stayed on the car
And a 2 hour drive home with half a Baur on the trailer.
And this is how the B46121 left our drive:
Belgium was the third largest exportcountry for Baurs. On every 20000 inhibitants, there was one TC2. In Germany, that was 14.000, in the largest exportcountry (UK) that was 37.000. There is a garage near Liege btw, that has/had 3 TC2 for sale (B43669/B48286/B48906). I still have the adress in the white (was one of the last drives with the white).

I thought that I had some reference source which tells me which Bosch spark plug number to use in my '84 320i 6-cyl., but I was apparently wrong.
Does anyone know the correct currently-available Bosch spark plug to use in an M20B20?

Thanks to THEPOOLMAN for the link. I just bought a 1986 325e baur # 45943, alpine white/blue. This is my second TC2 since i owned a 1985 325i burgunrot metalic, in Uruguya, my home country. I don't have the baur # of my previous one, but i know that only 2 cars are in the country, mine and another green 1985 323i. Here are pics of both cars.
Thanks!

This is my father's 1986 BMW 325e tc baur edition. The TC baur is a full convertible that maintains the structural ridgidity of a coupe by keeping the roof structure intact. It is a extremely rare model. The TC Baur version also offers a targat top removal or full removal of the roof. The Targa top slides into rails in the trunk for storage. The rear part is of cloth material and flips down. You can have it targa flip up at an angle or remove it completely. It offers many options. We have had the car for over 10 years and done all the our self. I have many reciepts and there are many new parts on the car. It is currently his daily driver. Asking $4500 or best offer

Ed,
Thanks for the plug numbers. The local auto parts store does not have that number in their system, nor (alarmingly) does the Bosch site recognize it. Has it by any chance been superseded to a Bosch stock number? IIRC those are a four-digit number with no alpha characters. Google has so far borne no results.
If not, I am certain that I can order some W8LRC plugs on eBay as I did the currently N/A Bosch number for our 325e.
Leo,
Welcome! That is indeed a nice-looking Baur.
It appears to have been "Federalized" with the same side marker lamps as mine . . . which were sourced from the 1970s M-B parts bin. If they bear P/N -ULO-302 00/30 (front) and -ULO-320 10/20 (rear), then Mercedes is indeed their original application. You can occasionally find them on eBay for reasonable prices. I have had to replace two thus far.

EDIT
Okay, after much Googling I think that I am beginning to get this sorted out:
Bosch W8LCR ("Super", stock #7509, gap .07mm) was the preferred plug, but it was discontinued about three or four years ago.
Bosch WR8LC ("Yttrium", stock # 7909, gap .08mm) is its replacement, but there have been reports about its electrodes melting when used in M20 engines.
I am going to search the 'net and try to find some surplus W8LCR plugs . . . just so that I don't have to put U.S or Japanese plugs in my German car. It currently has a set of "inherited" Champions installed . . . yecch.
