Packed up in Wisconsin, ready for the journey to PA:
Arrived in my buddy Don's (dcvee) garage:
The next mission is getting my car towed out to PA. I will update this when possible, but it will be a slow moving build.

killer.
how much did you find your s14 for?
Sounds like a great project! Look forward to seeing some more progress
I have $6k in receipts from the previous owner for work done in the last year on the motor, as well as a written guarantee that the motor will operate as described. The gentleman's garage where my s14 currently sits is the same gentleman who built my turbo S50 motor. To put it bluntly, I am not frightened, at all.
Oh, it will be worth it

Did you get the transmission that goes with it? Are you planning to run the stock ECU?
I will be using the stock e30 M3 ECU. I have the wiring harness from the donor car as well.
I got the e30 bellhousing and flywheel / clutch...not the transmission.
The s14 will bolt up to the e21 5 speed transmission. I need to have the 2 sensor bungs (TDC & RPM) from the e30 bellhousing welded to the e21 bellhousing.
Do not cut the e30 bellhousing! I will gladly machine some billet bungs for you in exchange for it. The e21 transmission has about 1/4 of the strength though. Maybe it would never be a problem, but I don't know. It's not too hard to find a G265 box, I bought one for $100 one time. But then you need a custom driveshaft and crossmember, maybe shifter too. It's way overkill for the S14, people use them with 400hp turbo M30's all the time.
I wasn't planning on cutting the e30 bellhousing. Don has access to a machine shop and will be making me the bungs. We just need the e30 bellhousing to get the correct "clocking" of the bung locations. I am doing this swap with the e21 stuff to avoid sourcing custom driveshafts and shifters.
I think the stock e21 stuff will hold up just fine...it's all in great shape. I am not going to be taking this car racing...that's what the M3 is for
That looks like the ultimate combination. I would love to do this but, don't have the mechanical ability! Good luck.
Ok, i am doing at the moment the same setup S14B20 into my E-21 ... i will be glad to help as far as i can, as i have been through the whole process of rebuilding the engine from scratch !!!
I am using E-21 5 short speed gearbox and i will be runing the engine with Stand alone (Mega Squirt) as i don`t have neither the ECU not the Airflow Meter.
So i got Mega for that reason ... i have done everything to the engine, started with the normal rebuild of the internal (stock ones) piston rings and other stuff and i have used the rod bearings of the M10 as its the same size but different place of the pin guide ... therefore i was capable to modify the rod to accept the M10 rod bearing !!
i got a new oil pump as well and new head gasket and new almost everything ... the rebuild is fuckin expensive ...
next week will search for an after market oil cooler and will install the engine ... i just got my new Spark Pluges wire set from the states ...
I would be happy if we can exchange the experience from each others ...
With the best of luck

Wow some already put 6k into the motor - and you got this S14?
Well it sounds like its going to be an awesome swap....
BMWCLUB RACER - did the same swap into his 320i and blew the engine racing.
So If you just drive it and dont race it it should be all set.
I watching this swap for my friend...we have been quoted up to 6k to rebuild the S14 and most have high mileage - thats way I told him to go M50...

I spent a few hours yesterday pulling the block out with my neighbor. We used the huge tree in my back yard and a chain hoist. I am using the stock e21 transmission. So I made a nice temporary brace out of 2x4's to hold the trans up. I should be good for the tow out to Harrisburg, PA.
Some pics for your enjoyment...
Bob,
i've stopped pulling engines out of the E21/30 from the top. it's much easier to drop the complete drivetrain out of the bottom while still bolted to the subframe.
you do the install the same way. stab the transmission on the bench/floor, bolt on the subframe and bring it in from the bottom. so much easier!

I've seen you post this before. I don't have a garage, and I have no idea how you lifted the front of your car up so high???? I agree it would be easier, but I just don't have the means to get it done that way. Besides that, the only reason I left that tree limb in my yard was for motor pulling...LOL
I will NERVER EVER put a chevy / gmc motor in any of my bmw's. It just doesn't seem right.
